I was curious if a hand stop mounted on the left or right side of a handguard would provide another good index point along with the AFG mounted on the bottom rail or would it be a waste of rail space. My thinking behind it was that a good hand stop like the one from gear sector would be a good index point to fit into the webbing of your thumb and index finger and keep you from over extending your hand and giving you a much more aggressive grip when used in conjunction with the AFG.

LaRue made those already, but they've never been for sale.

I know that there are already hand stops out there I was asking if a hand stop used in conjunction with an AFG is a good idea or not.

The AFG is a reference point and already has a handstop built in.  I wouldn't find it necessary.

To me front handstops are not needed except on really short weapons where there is a possibility of over reaching and shooting your finger - like an HK MP-5 K.  On normal weapons it's not needed since most of your front grip is pulling the weapon into your shoulder pocket, not pushing it forward.

Of course - everyone is different.

I was actually contemplating this myself today. I think something like this would work well to get a firm grip and control lift, without having to get your thumb on top of the rail. Well, it at least sounds good, I'd have to try it out to be sure.

ETA: It might cause uneven recoil... Hard to tell without shooting with it.

The recoil by my thinking would be distributed to the action side a little bit more in this setup, not by much by any means. Just that extra point of contact could give you increased control over the weapon.
