Hey, there is a threat about BCM in the tech forums where a guy cracked his upper receiver when trying to remove a M4's barrel nut that may have been over-torqued and/or shown to have seized up.

I wondered does BCM use some sort of anti-seize lube on their upper threads before installing a barrel where the nut has to be indexed?

Sorry if duplicate.

I'm sure they do.
They say to apply white lithium or moly past (or grease) to the threads of the kmr barrel nut. In the instructions that come with their handguard.
Indexed or not, wouldn't matter.

It's not 33MS on my new KMR upper as it is brownish (like peanut butter) while 33MS is black.

Exactly. My BCM BFH 16" Mid Length Lt Weight has that brownish stuff, looks like some kind of moly grease.

I was looking under the delta ring on mine and there was a white paste under there. Not sure if that is just overflow from the barrel nut or another grease point.

They were talking about BCM barrels being hard to get off and the speculation was between rounded up torque values for indexing, or the nut seizing up. Might have been improper tools, told the guy to use a clamshell receiver vice block, which is what I use and have never had trouble, despite Colt monkey gripping my 6920 barrel to millions of foot lbs.

Just got 2 mid length and they both have the brownish grease. So if its not aeroshell what is it? Does BCM even respond in these threads?

It's just some kind of light brown kinda tan moly grease.

You might get a answer by emailing them. I hope nobody is worried about what they use, i've used good wheel bearing grease and other moly stuff and never had a problem.
