OKAY, AT LONG LAST- A RANGE REPORT! Sorry it took so long to get it out, had to invest in an optic and more LaRue gear! Plus the our new son, Dillon is keeping us busy. Last week I was able to qualify with the LaRue. The police qual is really a joke. 5 rounds prone at 100, 5 rounds kneeling at 50, 5 rounds standing at 25, and 5 round to the head at 7 yards. While prone at 100, I squeezed off 5 careful shots, however the RO told me I was shooting too fast, and that he hoped, for my sake, all the shots were within the A zone. We shoot at IPSC targets. I did not think I was shooting fast, but he did. I wish I had a camera to capture the look on his face when he saw my target...all 15 torso shots were within a nice neat 3 inch circle.....  I assembled the upper onto a Anvil Arms Lower with a Rock River LPG and NM two stage trigger. I colored in the Larue logos OD green to match the furnature. I outfitted the rifle with a Leupold MK4 3.5-10 ilumn mil dot. and also picked up a Trijicon ACOG TA11, which I have been drooling over for a long time!  FUG-  Right side  left side  I've been out in nasty weather to do some quick close range sighting in, but yesterday was the first day I was able to have some serious range time. Up here in the arctic, nice days are hard to come by. Yesterday it was overcast, 34*F above, and the wind was out of the east at a steady 5-7mph. Perfect! Here is my improvised range:  Yep, it's June and there is still plenty of ice around! I shot 5 different kinds of ammo at a lasered range of 102 yards. Each target was shot 10 times off of a bipod. Now I am not the best shot in the world, and do not claim to be. It took about an hour and a half for me to set up and shoot this target. This is not ment to be a definitive test, as if it was, I would have a lot more ammo and time. I beleive to be definitive, there should be an average of 10-10 shot groups. I do not have the resourses to do such a test. this is just to give me an idea on what this particular rifle likes. Groups were measured from center to center. After each 10 shot group the barrel was cleaned with a bore snake being run through it 3 times, and a cooling period of 5 minutes before the next string.  the top left target- blank, I ment to shoot Federal 55grn , however I forget the ammo! top right- Wolf 55grn-3.5 inch middle left- Hornady TAP 75 grn FPD- 1.85 inch middle right- Winchester 55 grn Balistic silvertip 1.50 inch bottom left- Blask Hills 77grn match king blue box 1.27 inch bottom right- Black hills 75 grn moly coated blue box 2.4 inch. to finish my range session, I put on the ACOG and shot 10 shots w/o the bipod at 100 yrds at the far right target.  I had zero issues with this rifle, and mounts. Each time I put the rifle away the optics come off, and get attached again when I go back out shooting. To tell the truth, I handle this rifle a lot, and the optics come off and on many times between range sessions, with ZERO shift of impact. I realize the next step is to streach her legs out to 200 yards, as 100 is not a fair test of the heavy bullets. I will post target results after that range session. To sum up This range report, the Larue Stealth upper is unbeleiveable!!! I am convincend LaRue isnot only the best AR there is, but has the best customer service, and outstanding QD mounts!  My next big purchase will not be another firearm, but a LaRue resetting target!!  |

I did not use the suppressor for the test. The suppressor is a Gemtech M4-96D which has been converted to the G5 QD mount. I used this suppressor on my other AR as well as a .223 Remington 700. BTW, the LaRue has achieved better groups than the bolt action.  I have not done a test to see if the point of impact changes with the suppressor attached. With my other AR-I did not detect any noticeable shift. |

Part 2- I went back out to do some more shooting. it was 56*f above, and the wind was out of the West, and I was shooting west. I shot prone off of a bipod at 100 yards, and did not shoot any moly bullets. I received the Troy BUIS from Larue, and planned to zero them. To my surprise they were right on the money at 25, and perfect and scored a 3.1" group which was 1.5 inches high at 100 yards! No need to touch a thing!! The 77grain blue box Black hills shot a 1.2 inch 10 shot group I then attached the Gemtech suppressor which resulted in a 10 shot 1.5 inch group which impacted 3.3 inches low. This surprised me, as I do not get much of an impact shift using the 11.5 inch barrel. Hornady 75 grn TAP FPD shot a 1.6 inch group American Eagle 55grn FMJ ( duty ammo) shot a 3.5 inch group and a 3.6 inch group. Next time out I need to do some 200 yrd shooting. |

Part 3 Today was 200 yard work! I shot off of a bipod while prone. I shot the Iron sights at 200. I shot 1 10 round group which was spot on! The group was 3.6 inches..and centered right on the 4 inch target. Shooting Federal 55 grn FMJ. I shot 2 10 shot groups with Black Hills Blue box 77grn loads. The first group was a 2.8 inch and the second was a 2.4 inch group. Overall very good preformance!! |
