| So I am going to be in Austin this next week for a conference. I will be staying at the ATT Conference Center on the SW corner of campus. Give me some suggestions on places to eat/drink, things to do. TIA |

Will you be alone or with others, what kinds of things do you enjoy doing, will you have access to a car? I am going to be alone and won't have access to a car. So anything around campus that is within walking distance is doable. Music, food, beer, I am up for any suggestions, especially if something is unique to the area. |

Take a cab over to South Congress and try the food at the "trailer park." I recommend trying a few but definitely Mighty Cone. Go see a movie at the Alamo Drafthouse; good food and cold beer served during the movie. Go to Zilker Park and go down to Town Lake (Lady Bird Lake) and rent a canoe. You can go paddling around Lady Bird if you'd like, but I included this because you will have the opportunity to blade at 45 and drop kick a goose if you have not had the pleasure before as you will have to run the goose gauntlet in order to get your canoe to open water. Then take a walk down Guatelupe to remind yourself why you gave up smoking pot at age 24. As others have stated, eat some good BBQ. County Line, Uncle Billy's, Franklin are all good, but there are many others. P.Terry's is a must while you're here. Order a cheese burger and ask for a chicken patty on top and thank me later. Last, but not least, go visit the SRV statue on Town Lake and pay your respects |

You recommended fast food??? Go to Chuy's for food and Copper Tank Brewery for beer. Nuff said. A: Chuy's is not worth the trip. B: The Copper Tank closed in 2005. |

Got the places I through up are within walking distance and sort of "known" spots from when I went to UT. I will say the wendy's at the union is the most impressive wendys I have been too though . . . .
And I still think Players is a cool place to hang and get some burgers. :D |

Pluckers is always a good place to go to eat. There are a couple of hole in the wall restaurants there like Madam Mam's, which is a good Thai food. There's also Chuy's on 183 and Rudy's BBQ. If you're looking for other places near campus, Mandola's, Zen, Boomerangs, Foodheads, Five Guys, Mangia's Pizza (kickass pizza), Central Market, EZ's, Dirty Martins, Trudy's (the North Star location has an awesome breakfast/brunch Buffet, Tiff's Treats (for cookies and desserts and they do late night delivs), Taco Cabana's, Chipotle, Potbellies, Canoli Joe's (all you can eat italian that's actually good!), and if you wanna go far enough, go to Salt Lick (totally worth the drive). That's all I can think of right now. I"ll add to the list over time.
If you're looking for late night stuff, try magnolia's if ur new 6th St. or Kerbey Lane since you're near campus. EDIT: Thundercloud's California Club is kick ass |

Quoted: Damn.....thanks for the update...I have had Chuy's lately, hmm. Ok, try Flores Mexican Rest. out on 290W, or their smaller rest. out on FM620 near FM2222....Quoted: You recommended fast food??? Go to Chuy's for food and Copper Tank Brewery for beer. Nuff said. County Line BBQ is real good, great atmosphere.....when I am in A, TX, that is where I eat. 77 Back in the 80s, The County Line (both On The Hill and On The Lake) was it ... the only thing to take corporate guests to eat ... and it was as great then as it is now. But now a bridge made 'em closer to each other. |
