I'm using a standard carbine buffer spring right now but was looking at the options from Tactical Springs after reading Mike Pannone's article here: http://www.defensereview.com/the-big-m4-myth-fouling-caused-by-the-direct-impingement-gas-system-makes-the-m4-unreliable/

He knows a lot more about the weapons system than I do, as do you guys. Just curious if you would recommend similar buffer springs as he does, specifically the Sprinco/Tactical Springs Blue colored spring? Or do you recommend using the standard carbine buffer spring?

For what it's worth, I'm using a BCM 14.5" upper with a carbine gas system.

I had problems previously with using a Superior Shooting Systems (Tubb's) buffer spring. I never want to try to use one of their "flat wire" springs again.

Thanks for your time!

there are a lot of things in that article that make me go

for example, the author states that a DPMS 16" barrel is identical to the Colt made 14.5" M4 barrel despite the DPMS' oversized gas port and longer dwell time. commercial 16" are barrels designed to run with the widest variety of ammo, so they are purposely overgassed, which is why a stronger spring would be desirable. the BCM barrel he ultimately uses, has the correct diameter gas port (intended for hotter mil-spec ammo) and has a shorter dwell time.

throughout his tests, there is no control group, and his parts list changes from DPMS w/ LT rail to Noveske to BCM and then pictures some rifle with a VLTOR CASV w/ an eotech on a riser.

I really don't understand the point of the article, it starts out talking about failure to extract/eject, which SOCOM (and the author) addressed with the Crane O-Ring, and BCM addressed with upgraded springs in their bolts, but then moves onto DI gas fouling, and buffer/spring weights. There is no discussion of whether or not he pulled the bolts from the 82nd ABN M4s and made note of the extractor spring type, buffer weight, or whether or not a crane o-ring was installed.

if you want to read an article about fouling in a DI system, check out the copy of the Pat Rogers Filthy 14 article (BCM has been shipping a copy with their orders). it does a lot to debunk a lot of the snake oil nonsense products that a lot of folks seem to "need" to get their guns running right. they used SLIP EWL and replaced parts when broken or worn (which all fell beyond the expected MTBF).

FWIW, i'm 99.9% sure that all BCM rifles/lowers ship with standard carbine springs.

All the ones I've seen have come with an H buffer and all the BCM advertisements list an H buffer being included.

OP didn't ask about the buffer, he asked about the spring. Not sure what your point in quoting me was.
