I really need help in trying to decide if fluting a Noveske Afghan(14.5 SS) is really worth it. I understand the primary purpose of fluting is to reduce the weight and faster cooling of the barrel but is it a noticeable difference? It's primarily a HD/range toy that averages between 500-1000 rnds a year. Any and all insight will be appreciated. TIA

Yes and no.

Yes, there will be a small reduction in weight. Yes, there will be a small amount of effective cooling.  Will it give substantial weight reduction, no. Will the added cooling efficiency matter, no.

If you are looking for substantial weight reduction, we recommend contouring to a lighter profile.

And, as for cooling, unless you are running it full auto, there is no need for "more efficient" cooling, since it won't get hot enough to matter (it will cool down faster after you stop shooting, if that matters). Even if running full auto, fluting will not dissipate heat fast enough, during sustained fire, to really matter.

We recommend fluting more for aesthetics, than function. Hope that helps.

Thank you sir, that helps a heap. You guys never cease to amaze me with your openess, honesty and willingness to go above and beyond others. You could have just as easily stated pros only but your response is why I'd rather pay shipping and give ADCO my business. As well as the quality of your work is second to none. You guys did an upper assembly for me last fall and it's been nothing short of factory builds. As soon as I can get my last component(an 11" NSR), I'll ship you everything for an Afghan build.
Thanks again
