For an ar10 barrel PSA offers melonite, phosphate or ss, which is the better choice?

stainless is usually the most accurate, but will wear the fastest

melonite is the hardest surface and will last the longest (of the three choices mentioned)

phosphate will be the cheapest barrel to make thus usually passing along a bigger savings to the consumer or profit to the company

edit to add - if i had to pick one of those choices i would likely go with stainless for the accuracy.

Depends.

If the barrels are made the same, melonite and stainless should be equally accurate. The melonite treatment should make the barrel last longer, which clearly gives the edge to melonite treated barrels. If barrel manufacturing specs are equal and meloniting is done before the barrel extension is installed, the melonite is the best choice

The potential accuracy issues from typical chrome lined phosphate coated barrels is the potential inconsistencies in the chrome lining itself. Some are dead nuts accurate while some may have slight deviation.

Depends upon what your definition of BETTER is... Better barrel life, Better accuracy, Better looks, Better fit? What are we comparing Better of?

Melonite is a treatment, not what the barrel is made of.

Personally, I chose an 18" Mega barrel. Made from 416 stainless and has a sub-moa guarantee and the accuracy is absolutely there. The melonite treatment gives me the durability that people associate with a CHF barrel so I know it'll last me 20,000+ rounds. Fit and finish are immaculate, as to be expected from Mega.
