Steve...

I have one of your CMP guns that I finally got around to trying to take the bolt apart. (I'm not a newbie - I have 8 other AR's I just haven't had the chance to shoot it a lot) The upper is maybe 3 months old and has less than 150 rounds through it.

When I got the bolt out of the carrier, I put it in a bolt tool to remove the ejector - as I have done lots of times on other bolts. After shattering 3 pin punches, soaking the bolt overnight in Kroil, I finally got the roll pin out with the result that the 4th pin punch broke off in the hole. The roll pin was crushed on one side and the remains of the punch are left in the bolt. I checked the bolt tool to make sure it was pushing the ejector in, which it was.

We are not talking easy removal here. I had to finally hit it with almost the force needed to remove a taper pin from the FSB. I have two questions:

1) Can I send the bolt to you and let you look at it?. Others have seen the problem, but nobody has any idea about why it happens. I really hate to lose the bolt because you probably matched it to the barrel.

2) If you can't do anything about the bolt, what will replacing the bolt do to the accuracy of my CMP gun? I have a CMT bolt (new) in it now, but haven't shot it.

Whatever you can do, I appreciate it. Thanks

Pete,
Call our Sales dept for a return authorization.  We'll probably want the upper half, however, as we'll need to headspace it if we need to replace the bolt.
Thanks.
