Ive been running the dot since you had a sale on the blem M4s. The dot has held up great, ive kept it on 24/7 since i got on and still on original battery. Shot a couple 2gun matches with it. Im having the same reoccuring issue though. The mount keeps coming loose. Not what claps to the rail, but between the dot sight and the clamping area. First time it came loose after i originally mounted it. So i took the whole thing off, all screws out, cleaned it, put blue loctite on the threads and remounted. I sighted in some new irons i got yesterday and re confirmed with the red dot. When i got home and was doing some dry fire practice, i noticed the sight has a slight give now with an audible noise and shift if i push it. Is there any other solution to this? Im going to take it off and remount and tighten everything up tonight, but im worried its just gonna come loose again. Any help is appreciated. Bust |

Im not sure. Im headed to work now, but im gonna get into it tonight when i get home. I looked at it briefly after my earlier post. The riser is what is loose. The locking bar to the rail is tight and doesnt move. and the riser ––> sight is good. Its the space between the clamping bar and the riser, you can see it shift just a bit when i push it (not super hard). I do handle my carbine alot and do alot of dry fire so it gets knocked around all week from that. I will look tonight when i take it apart and remount to see if anything is stripped out. |

This might be your problem. I recently bought a 30mm red dot with cantilever mount. There was some a ton of crap in the threads for the six screws, and the screws would get tight before the the heads contacted the counterbores. Only two of the screws were doing anything. I didn't have a tap handy to clean up the threads, so I used another screw of the right size and just rotated it in and out going a little deeper each time with the top half of the mount removed. Be very careful not to strip the threads if you don't use a tap.

Thanks truman for the advice. I got the sight off my carbine and looked at it. I got the screws out and looked at the threads on the screw and sight. Things look to be ok. I know one mistake i feel i made when mounting it last time with the loctite. The actual threads on the sight only contact the very end of the screws, i didnt really pay enough attention last time to see this and my loctite didnt get too much around there. Im gonna clean up all the threads and remount making sure there is loctite on the sight and tip of the screws where they contact. I really do like this sight though. its been holding up great and battery life has been awesome. At home i keep it on setting 1-2 pretty much 24/7. Ive shot 3 matches with it as well and its still on the original battery. I have a 2gun match this upcoming weekend. Im gonna get the sight remounted tonight and ill update to see if it stays good to go after the match. Thanks for the responses Marsh. -Bust |
