I have a couple of M4's, both do the same thing.

With the bolt locked back, No magazine,  if you tap/bang the butt-stock against the ground , the bolt will release and close.

I've tried the same thing with a Colt and it does not do this.

Anybody else with a DD want to give this a shot? See if their does the same thing?

All that is happening is when the butt is struck, the forces are transferred to the bolt carrier group.
This energy relieves the pressure on the bolt stop, allowing it to drop, this closing the bolt.

Would suspect the pressure of the Colt buffer spring is a bit higher in pressure.

All AR's do that...just bang the colt a little harder and it will do the same thing.

Thanks for the info.

I understood it was the buffer spring compressing, and releasing the catch, just wasn't sure if it was supposed to be that easy.

Thanks again. Love these rifles!

absolutely normal.  Any AR will do this.
