If my knowledge is right, chrome lining is a very very thin plating of ultra hard chrome, nitriding is a surface treatment that tends to be somewhat less hard, but thicker, and still many times harder than typical barrel steel.
Would it theoretically be possible to chrome line a nitrided barrel so that it would both be impervious to surface rust, and also with a greater barrel life than either? And if so are there any plans? |
