Edit- apologies friends, there is already a 6940 pics thread. Mine is redundant. More Colt minutia but this is our interest. Conversation containing 6940 uppers in other threads prompted me to get my ‘twins’ out. Barrel date 2012 has a machined step down profile from the gas block rearward. Barrel date 2009 has a smooth’er’ taper step down profile from the gas block rearward. Nothing of concern but curiosity. Did Colt make several barrel profile changes (under hand guard) over the years on the 6940? Not profile as in dimensionally, but machined surface changes? Thanks in advance.

EDIT- Don’t let me lead you down a dry hole. I’ll get pics up of mine as when the lower hand guard is fully removed it appears to be a ‘tooling’ issue. Just a different tool head that day I suspect. I will be posting many pics of the two 6940 uppers for anyones reference. They are approximately 3 years difference in barrel date. Both LE. The 2012 barrel was at the time you could choose a NIB LE sn or a SP sn. Both were available. The SP was offered with the Rogers SS. Obviously I chose the LE. The 6943 I got from Botach has a C and square forge mark on the upper, very faint C on BCG and MPC on bolt, 13629 M P barrel code. 11.5 is my favorite barrel length, couldn’t pass it up and glad I didn’t. I have the same 11.5” upper back ordered via Midway. The 10.3” is In Stock but the fudd in me says 11.5” minimum. Free members can’t post pic without using a web service. Barrel profile Attached File This forge mark (a B inside of a diamond) is on the right side of the gas block/front sight base of a 6945 upper receiver with a barrel date of May, 2016. Attached File Although there isn't a definitive guide for forge marks, internet speculation is that this is possibly a product of Bourdon Forge. |

Later I couldn't find any numbers and blamed it on poor lighting. Now, without removing the barrel I can’t see a damn mark. I mean if they take away our clues, what game is there left to play? Show a potential buyer our sales receipt? How are old farts like me gonna sit around and bicker over ‘what’ a rail?  I think I’ll stick with my meager M4 back to pre-ban sticks. I’ll root for the next Gen though. They all send the same bullet to the same inch after all. |
