Hello, I just bought my first AR. I bought a 6400C. I was wondering if it had a carbine buffer and spring or rifle? I am wanting a 6 pos. stock and just wondering what my options are. Thanks for helpin the new guy.

It has a carbine "H" buffer. There are numerous options for collapsable stocks- just look around here on the industry section to see what works for you. The 6400c was my first at as well- it wasn't my last I can tell you!

My MT6400c was my first AR as well! I put a magpul CTR stock on it and love it! I also have one on my 6933 SBR too. Good luck with your new toy! Your gonna love it!   Dan

Thanks for everyones help. I am pretty happy with it. I wish it was a 6920 but from what I have seen I can make it identical for very little money. So, all I need is a stock and buffer tube? I can use my buffer and spring, correct.   Do he new 6400's still have the bigger trigger assembly pins? Not sure if I want to change triggers yet. Don't have enough trigger time with it to make up my mind yet.

Congratulations on your new MT6400C!!

I love mine, and turned it into a "no ban" after the AWB sunset. Like all current Colts, your 6400C does have the larger (.170) fire control group pins. For what it's worth, the only difference between my LE6920 and my unbanned MT6400C is a flash hider and a bayonet lug.

My MT6400C in front, and LE6920 in back:

Pretty hard to tell them apart, no?

CJan, does that Hogue interfere with your selector at all? Mine should be here tomorrow. Also, does anyone know where the best deal would be on a new buffer tube and 6 pos.? I'm not going to be that picky right now. I just want to get the fixed one off there. I do like the Vltor and the Magpul, but like I said not going to be picky at this point. Thanks everyone.

One of my earlier Hogues did interfere with the selector, so I cut a small notch out of it with a razor knife.

I have one of these stocks. Works great. Just order it up with the standard buffer, and use your Colt buffer instead. Take a look on this site. I'm sure he also has a telestock wrench.

This is a armorers wrench which will help with the stock and also other uses.

The MT6400C has a carbine "H" buffer and spring. You can take that info to the bank

ETA: Here is a pic of the "H" carbine buffer from one of my personally owned MT6400Cs:

To upgrade your MT6400C, and use the stock that came with it, you will need to carefully remove the pins that hold the stock onto post-ban receiver extension (buffer tube).  Again, carefully remove the pin holding the release lever onto the stock.  You will need to buy a lock release lever pin (07), lock release lever pin spring (08), Lock pin nut (11), and lock nut & pin (12).  Install these parts and your stock is good-to-go.

Next, you will have to bust the stake on receiver extension nut (03).  You may have to get a new nut and receiver end plate (02).  After you have done so, pick up a mil-spec receiver extension.  MAKE SURE IT IS MIL-SPEC!  Otherwise, your Colt stock will not fit.  Install the receiver extension, end plate, and nut and have the nut staked.  Some use Loctite.  Colt doesn't and I wouldn't either, but YMMV.

01 - Buffer assy.
02 - Receiver end plate
03 - Receiver extension nut
04 - Action spring
05 - Receiver extension
06 - Sliding Buttstock assy.
07 - Lock release lever pin
08 - Lock release lever pin spring
09 - Sliding buttstock
10 - Release lever
11 - Lock pin nut
12 - Lock nut & pin

Why do you want a two-stage trigger?  This is a fighting gun, not a precision rifle.  Put 500-1000 rounds downrange and your trigger will smooth out nicely.

Cool thanks.  Where is the best place to order the small parts like that? I have not decided about the trigger yet. Like I said I don't have enough trigger time with it yet. I just saw that some people change them out. I was just checkin out the options Thanks again.

People changing out triggers?  What do they know? . . . .   Think it through before making the decision to do so.

SAW or ADCO.  Those are the choices. . .

I've had my 6400 for 3 years now, it is still my favorite AR. Probably for the roll-mark, because I've changed out every ban item since I got it.

Can't say I disagree with you there

It's kind if neat to have an "M4gery" that actually says "M4 CARBINE" on the lower.

ETA: Your selector is pointing to the 'auto' position. How did that happen?

It has a de-milled selector switch. The lobe that depresses the tab on the auto disconnector is milled off.

El_Abogado, does the Lock Pin Nut (11) really cost $22? I might be lookin in the wrong places, but it seems like its going to cost close to $60-$75 to do this. Is this correct? Thanks again.

Not if you live in a no-ban state.  Either you can or you can't.
