| I guess I should have included this with my last post. I haven't been able to find a part number for the short (carbine) free float fore end on the Colt website or SAW. Does Colt use their own or an aftermarket when they use the free float fore ends? I prefer to stick with Colt brand parts on my 6731. I almost hesitate to change it out 'cause I just shot some handloads with two 3 shot groups with one coming in at 7/16 inch and one at 11/16 (100 yds.). I don't know if it will get much better than this. I'd appreciate any info on availability of Colt free float hand guards. Thanks & happy new year. |

You're right, ceh-47, I don't know how much better you could expect FF to make things I believe the value in an aftermarket FF fore-end would be limited to the rail space for accessories, since accuracy improvement- measured in tenths of an inch- is hard to justify upward of $300 or more. Then again, if its rails only you want, you do not have to go free float for that, and could save considerable cash. BTW: Nice shot! |
| Thanks for the responses. I'm aware Colt does offer a bench rest type varmit rifle in a 20" and 24" barrel but I'm not sure about the 16". My current original handguards are about 6 or 7 inches and I know there are aftermarket free floats available but not sure about Colt. But I've about decided to forego the changeout even if they are available 'cause I'm getting pretty good accuracy and would hate to screw it up. The only thing I would maybe put on would be a flashlight and I think I can put that on a mount integral with the front sight. I probably just need to build another rifle! |
