I thought you guys might like this.  It started out as a project by Peepshowal in the retro forum, to try and build a colt M231 port firing weapon clone, He got hold of most of the  original colt parts,  but a few,   mainly the gas block

here is a pic of the real thing

here is what Al had when I came into the story

after seeing him try in vain to come up with a block for it. I  told him I knewa way to get it done. one of my best friends is a talented machinist and with ALs help and some of the others   who saw a real one. and using  pics to go by we came up with this

and finally it all came together to this

it  was a cool thing to make happen and  it was a long time coming. he still needs to have it finished but   you can tel what it will look like, It was neat to see one of the lesser known colts ride again

here is a link to thr original thread

M231

I forgot to add that the gasblock was  hand made and is a one of a kind repro done  by hand from my friends mind, its a close copy and took months to complete and it uses a unique gas tube method

Very nice.

I have one of those stocks (a repro, I'm sure) that I bought years ago off EE on a whim –– but nothing that looks remotely like the rest of the set-up.

I've got about a stripper clips worth of USGI M196 tracer rounds that I don't know what the heck to do with. If the owner of this M231 repro would like them I'd be happy to donate them to the cause
