I just received my NIB Colt LE carbine, and noticed the elevation dial does not have the 3/8, 6/8/ or "Z" engraved on the dial, just a flat space where it should be.  Why would this be?  The instruction book say's it's engraved with one of them.  Thanks for any help.

All my three detachable carry handles have the 6/3 (meters) with the small "Z" at the right side of the number 3, from a 6721 made in 2004, 6721 made in 2009, and SP6920 made last year.

You might have to call Colt customer service and find out what they say.

only time i know of this is on the 7.62x39 uppers

the dial on them is not marked

have no idea how it happened to you

when you say NIB  are you 100 percent sure no one opened it before you?

few FFLs  have guns they have not opened at least to double check the serial number,  I know I have never met one that just trusted the name on the box, and i have met many more that love to rob colt parts of colt guns then put them up for sell without telling anyone, then selling genuine colt parts for a war price to some unsuspecting victim

not saying its what happened,  just be aware it does happen a lot

I ordered it from SOG; it was sealed when I picked it up the same day it arrived to the dealer.  Colt, Inc. Is VERY interested.  It zeroed fine.  I think the carrying handle, meant for a 7.62X 39MM, got switched to a 5.56MM.  Either at Colt or at SOG.

And they asked you to do what?

SO far they said they were working on sending me a new one.

Thought Colt hadn't made any 7.62X39 uppers in a very long time.  Maybe the carry handle is from one of the new 6450 flattops.

Terry, if for some reason Colt drops the ball (they won't, but just in case they do) I would be happy to swap with you. I have several unused Colt carry handles on-hand. The majority of my flattop Colts have optics installed, so the handles end up collecting dust in an old shoebox

Thanks for the offer.  I'm waiting to see what Colt will do.  SOG washed their hands of it.  The rifle zeroed perfectly so I don't know that it makes a difference, really. I wonder how it happened?

Can you please post some photos of that rare oddity before you send it back?  Thanks
