I saw a new Colt Marksman CRX-16 at my LGS and was very impressed with it. The receiver was stamped .223 but the barrel was stamped 5.56 so I presume any 5.56mm ammunition is safe to fire in it. Has any forum member bought one of these neat rifles yet and if so what do you think of it.

Just got one last week. Yes you can fire 556 ammo through it all day. I won't be able to shoot it till next week so can't say anything other then looks. I'm putting a surefire muzzle brake, magpul grip and a burris 1x4 on it to see how she does. Haven't decided on a stock replacement yet. However as for looks....the gun is very solid and fit and finish are perfect. Zero wobble between the receivers. I will post back next week and report and she shoots but I expect very well since its a match barrel and guaranteed to shoot under 1" at 100 yards...

a BIG +1 on the fit and finish. On my CRP-18 pro, there is zero play, and i mean zero play between the upper and lower. The finish is as nice as any custom maker can make i think.  The rifle is extremely light and there are no sharp or pointy edges giving the CRP a smooth feel.  I'll be changing the grip from magpul to ergo, other than that i am waiting for proper optics to do this baby justice.  range report will be awhile yet, until i save up enough for mk8 or mk6 possibly.

Doing a little more research on these I found out they're manufactured by an outfit in Texas under license from Colt. I imagine most of the major parts are of Colt manufacture but I wonder who male the barrels.

Anyone have any idea how to take the handguard system off on these???

What kind of wrench do they use???

Pic for reference...

It looks like the nut from Yankee Hill Machine.  They sell their own wrench.

Went back to my dealer to really give this CRX a better look. The handguard felt great in hand but the stock extended was a good inch shorter than an extended 6920 Rogers stock. Also looking at the BCG it's an AR carrier with no "C" stamp denoting Colt so I wonder who made it. Interesting gun but if I bought it the 1'st thing I'd do is change the stock. I see the upgraded E model has a MagPul fixed stock.

Thanks! I ordered one and should be on the way. Everything on the rife is great but I am going to replace the barrel with a Noveske Recon 16"...

Got the wrench today and swaped the barrel out for the Noveske. Looks great. Will shoot tomorrow and see what she will do...

And just a side note, Colt Competition has great customer service. I had to ask a few questions and they were very prompt and nice when responding. Very much unlike Colt Defense...

I wrote CC an email with some questions and I received a prompt email back that extensively answered all my questions. That email was very impressive and I get the impression Colt Competition is a serious company obviously linked to and marketed by Colt. I'm looking forward to any upcoming range reports.

Shot it over the weekend and had no problem getting under 1" groups at 100 yards with the MTAC and crappy M855 ammo. If I had a nice scope I would bet I cold get under half inch groups with it. I had zero malfunctions with it and it ran just like all my other Colts...

At the Superstition Mountain 3 Gun that was just held in late March, Colt Competition sponsored a side match that required teams of 3 random shooters to hit 3 banks of clay targets each with the supplied CRP-18 rifles.
In front of all the competitors, I pulled out the brand new CRP-18, lightly lubed it with Rem Oil, then shot 10 rounds to verify zero for all to see.
Over the next 70-80 minutes, the competitors hammered out 1200-1300 rounds. There was ZERO additional lubrication. That CRP-18 did not miss a beat...
