Guys, I have the chance to buy what is advertised as a Colt Mk 18 Barrel for what I consider a reasonable price.

I asked the seller for pics of the barrel and about the markings on it. The barrel is not marked. No CMP or barrel twist.

The only markings are 07/09 behind the front sight base. The sight base is marked "F" and the the barrel extension is marked with a 4 on the face.

I just want to know if it is in fact a Colt Mk18 Barrel.

Here are the pics.

Is there an "O" marked near the chamber end?  It's sometimes only partially stamped and looks like a "C" or just part of an "O."

The markings that exist and general appearance would suggest that it's a cut down Colt barrel.  This can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on who cut it.  The gas port would need to have been opened up per Crane specs.

As to whether or not it would be a "genuine" Colt MK18 or CQBR barrel... well, in the sense that the original CQBR and MK18 barrels were cut down 14.5" barrels, you could say so; but I don't think it left the factory as a 10.3" barrel.  An 07/09 date would be well after Colt began producing factory CQBR and MK18 barrels.

You have a genuine Colt barrel. There are no factory/proof/chrome ID/caliber nor twist markings on those barrels. The date code is your major tell tail sign as well as the F marked fsb.

Cut down 6920 barrel from the marks on the FSB and Crush Washer.  Looks like a pretty good job.  Probably a SAW cut down.

Well like RFV6 said, it's a cut down barrel, probably a 6920. So what's the price of a 6920 barrel and the cut/thread job? Probably cheaper than $400 I would imagine. Although I would probably pay $400 for "from the factory" MK18 barrel. Again it doesn't look like this one is a factory MK18 barrel.

There is a pretty comprehensive Mk18 ID thread over on TOS.  May want to look for it.  I'm not sure if it would answer your question directly, but you would probably find it informative.

I'm quite sure that's probably where it came from- that's not a factory Colt MK18 barrel as far as I know.

I gathered more info for the seller. The barrel was bought from SAWs.

Curiosity got the better of me so I called SAWs to spoke with a rep from them. From what they told me is that all of the Mk18 barrels including the barrel in question are received from Colt in this configuration. I specifically asked if SAWs cuts down barrels to make them into Mk18 barrels. I was told no, they are sold int eh configuration we receive them from Colt.

So at this point I'm left wondering.

In the Mk18 ID guide thread over on the other site, someone who had visited the either the SAW or DD facility had claimed that the barrels were coming in from Colt in that configuration.   I think it was CJ that was making the claim.
