Does anybody know-is the Colt poly buffer a one-piece unit? Or does it have a second piece that sits at the end of the receiver extension tube? Can you just swap a poly buffer for a steel buffer ? any photos? Thanks.

yes you can swap a poly buffer for a steel buffer. I have ordered my steel buffer from RRA.

I swapped the polymer buffer with a bushmaster buffer. I have heard bad things about the polymer buffers that colt uses

It appeared to be a one piece unit with loose crap shaking inside. It also had a hole on the side of it that, if disassembled, could trap it in the gun because the buffer retainer pin will lock into the small hole.

Mine was a one piece black plastic affair.... I bought a Colt milspec aluminum replacement buffer from SAW and swapped it out.

I've got one of those hanging around...a trinket from the dark days.
