If I sent my 6601 MT HBar to Colt to have the receivers re-annodized, do you think I could get them to do it in the "Colt gray" like the current M-16's instead of the black that I have now?  Any idea on cost?  I'll try to call them tomorrow, but just thought I'd ask here first.  Thanks!

I'm curious as to whether Colt will do the work. . . .   Did you try SAW?

I would try US Anodizing.  There have been guys in the M16 forum sending there 15K lowers in and returned to perfection.  They specilize in the older Colt gray.

Called Colt today and asked if they would refinish my receivers in gray.  At first the woman said that they can't do gray, only the current black color.  Then she said that they cannot refinish a lower receiver at all if it has any type of sear block in it.  I asked why and all she said was that there was some type of note there that said no refinishing receivers with sear blocks or something like that.

I have not checked with SAW, I didn't know they did that type of work.

The sear blocks are not aluminum and can't be anodized.  SAW refinishes up to the current finish, but will not do so with lowers that have the sear block, for the same reason. KKF used to remove sear blocks, but I think he stopped doing the work.  You could do it yourself, but you will probably be left with a hold in the side of the lower.  (KKF used to have plugs for the hole, I think.)

Maybe you are right and the woman I talked to was confused.  I specifically asked her if it also meant the current sear blocks that are actually part of the receiver (milled, webbed, or whatever they call it).  This is what I have, not the pinned sear block.  She said they would not do it even with the current sear blocks.  These ARE aluminum, correct? seeing as they are part of the receiver itself.

Colt did a Match Target 6601 for me a few years back under warranty and it had the current style sear block but it was done in black not grey.

Colt will do it, however your wait time will be anybodys guess. There have been quite a few members that have sent their gear into that black hole of a factory and it took many, many phonecalls and weeks before they even got a sitrep on the status of their rifles. It will be done right, the wait is the price you pay. I even remember a thread where Colt had inadvertantly damaged somebody's pre-ban Green Label lower that was sent in. In the end they manufactured him a new current production receiver with the old school roll marks and his same serial number. One of a kind rifle right there.

Your other option is SAW, his finish is the Colt factory certified black and your turn around time will probably be slightly less.

As far as no anodizing with sear blocks...yes, they are refering to the older steel type that were pinned in.

I think I would go with Colt on this one personally.

If your heart is set on the older grey...then U.S. Anodizing or Lauer Custom Refinishing is the ticket.

O3 out!!

I have a A2 upper receiver that was reanodizied in the Colt gray by US Anodizing and they did a very good job refinishing the upper.

While it isn't anodizing, you could have Mark Graham do the Colt gray.

Have Victor at US Anodizing do it.  He can do older green/gray or later blue/gray Colt anodizing.  He did my M16 lower and is nothing short of an artist.

He'll have your lower back to you in about a week, depending on his work load.  And his prices are very reasonable.

Go with Victor.
