Thought I would see if the Colt experts could help me positively id my new purchase.
I just picked up a mint condition Colt, and I'm having a little trouble identifying the model number.  The rifle is stamped "Match Target Competition Hbar", with the serial number beginning "CCH.....".  The information that I have been able to locate appears to indicate that the match target models begin with the serial number "MT....".

I just got off the phone with Colt, and although the rep was willing to help, she just didn't seem to offer much.  When I offered the serial number, she stated that she didn't have computer access at that time.  When I read the stamp (match target...), she immediately stated that the model was a MT6700C.  When I questioned the "C" (my model does not have the compensator), she said, "Oh, if it doesn't have a compensator, then it is definitely the MT6700."

So what is the verdict on model number?  It does say Match Target Competition Hbar, but the serial number begins CCH..... instead of MT.......?????

Thanks for your help guys

According to my reference (Black Rifle II), there are/were no Colt serial numbers with the prefix MT.  The MT was a prefix for the Model Number.  According to the same reference the serial number prefix CCH is for the the MT6700 as the Colt rep indicated.
A suffix "C" indicates an added pinned on compensator, and a suffix "CH" indicates a pinned-on compensator as well as Hogue pistol grips and handguards. I have a MT6700 bought during the ban, and have been quite happy with it as a first AR.

Thanks,

I appreciate the info guys.  Sorry I didn't specify......it is the 20" rifle, flat top, no compensator.  In hindsight, I may have been confusing what I read - referencing serial numbers vs model numbers.  My serial number does start CCH..., I thought that I read somewhere that the match target rifles began with serial number MT....
Probably just too much reading on my part and confusing the MT designation as a serial number instead of model number.

Thanks again for the input!
