Today when i was doing a little shoping at my dealers business the man had this upper on the display wall and it looked like a colt from a possible forien contract order I have seen on Isreal and Canadian contract M16's. The upper came with the standard A1 sight package with round donut foreward assist and deflector. The barrel was the standard GI issue A2 barrel profile with round handguards. There was no bolt carrier group but the charging handle was present. The upper came in a brown cardboard box marked M16A1 Upper receiver W/M16A2 barrel, Deluxe convertion kit, model number R0719DC. The dealer was asking 420.00 for the upper and i did not waste a minute and grabbed the beast, it was NIB but looked like it had been in storage for some time. Its going to make a good back up barrel system for one of my 6920's I remember seeing some early AR15a2 models with this upper during the early SP2 production years. This upper was retained the small diameter holes and a convertion pin included with accu wedge and strange looking metal gaget about a 1.5 inches long and tappered at one end, god only knows what that thing is... |
yep. 20", 14.5", 16"........? ETA: I found a reference that lists it as a 20" barreled upper. The 'DC' designations are 'complete upper assemblies' In this case, A1 sights, standard A2 full length ribbed HGs, 20" 1/7 gov't profile barrel, Bayo lug, etc. |

Sounds like you found yourself a Colt M16A2 model 715 upper receiver assembly conversion kit. It's the same upper receiver also found on the Canadian C7 Rifle. Very nice find, although it's a shame somebody snatched up the BCG. I certainly agree that you should put this one away for the collection and blast with something else. O3 out!!
