I was at a gun show recently and saw a dealer with several (30+) BattleSights that I questioned the authenticity of.  The things that made me wonder were:

  • Price - He was selling "new, authentic" BattleSights for $45/ea front and rear

  • Packaging - Packaging wasn't the same as what I have seen at retail (smaller, with white insert instead of mutli-color).  More importantly, all of the sights were black, and all packaging was marked Flat Dark Earth.

  • Markings - lettering didn't seem as clear/crisp as what I have seen on known genuine Troy items.

Sorry, no pics to illustrate as no cameras were allowed in the show, and since I passed on them I don't have any to show.  What I was wondering was if you have seen conterfeits on the market (or perhaps an airsoft version)?

Lots of airsoft copys of the folding verion sights, a simple google search would have found.  I don't think there are copys of the dioptics or fixed ones.  You should only buy direcly from a reputuable Troy dealer or direct, when buying private party you should be extremely carefull, its questionably worth taking the risk buying private party.  The copys I have seen are very close a lot of people would have a difficult time telling them apart.

Unfortunately we have seen an increase in counterfeit sights especially from Airsoft retailers. We are trying our best to inform customers to either buy direct from Troy or from one of it's reputable dealers however some of these illegal copies do end up making it to the end user. Please contact our Customer Service Department at any time if you feel you have purchased one of these sights and Jeff or myself will be happy to work with you in determining the authenticity of the product. Thank you.

Oh those I have a pair, they are for airsoft. The package is similar to troy's plastic package with white insert that says FDE on it somewhere. It is manufactured and produced by YZK in Hong Kong: http://www.yzh.hk. They cost $15 each.
