Took my new one out to the range. First five rounds low and right 12 inches. Blew the piss out of my target stand.
Got the elevation no problem, but the rear sight is all the way to the left almost as far as it will go. I know it's not dialed in brand new but that seems a bit much. Would this be considered out of the ordinary? Or should I play with the mounting screw and get it lined up better? It just seems like an extreme amount of adjustment. Shoots fantastic and a super rifle. No issues with any other aspect.
Comments welcome. I did em DD with no response yet.

You might get more replies if you post this in AR15 discussion.
The elevation requiring a lot of clicks doesn't sound bad. It varies a lot epending on what distance you are zeroing at, the height of the front sight post, and the height of the rear sight. The small aperture is supposed to be zeroed at 300 meters and the large is supposed to be zeroed at 200.
About windage. As long as you are able to zero it shouldn't matter. If you are planning on adjusting your sights for windage for long distances then you would want it centered, but you probably aren't planning to do that with an M4. Was it windy? Is your front sight post crooked? Is the entire front sight base canted? Is the rear sight mounted properly?

hank2165,

i just purchased the same rifle and had the exact same results.  Way low and right.  BUIS rear is all the way to the left.  I'd be interested in what you find.

what does it have for rear irons?  DD A1.5?  Did you try to zero through the smaller aperture?  Maybe your sight picture is off, as the "close" aperture is very wide and open on mine, so it took a little work unlearning to get the right sight picture with the front post centered, as the "wings" guarding the post seemed high, but that would be elevation mainly.

If your irons are on good and tight, it and you are cranked way over, it could be the timing on your barrel.  Come to think of it, that is probably what it is if you have no more adjustment in your sights.  I'm not sure if your barrel has to come out for that, but the barrel nut does at least.  So your upper may have to take a trip back.

Well, I just sent an e-mail to DD and it will get strightened out or whatever. The rifle itself is fantastic. Much better than another brand I have been loyal to. I did put on an Aimpoint H-1  so irons and dot are at 100m zero. Suits my needs.

Yes, part of my decision to buy a DD was that they are made in GA too, bonus.

Issue resolved. New barrel assembly. My rifle was most likely jacked up during shipping. DD handled it to an extent I am not used to.

Many thanks.
