I just received my DD Omega rail and was wondering if I should cut the hand guard cap off? Dose everyone leave it on or what? Thanks in advance.
when i installed my first omega, i was gonna take a dremel tool and cut the front cap off. instead,, i "trial installed" the omega, let it sit for awhile, and looked at it. i decided to leave the cap, as it kinda blocked the top of the rail, from anything getting in between the barrel and rail. it is hardly noticable to me,, but YMMV. this way,, i can always remove the rail and re-install plastic handguards, if desired. i have also found the omegas to be very good, and stable, a great innovative product.
Only drawback I have found with leaving mine on was the fact that accessories could not easily slide on and off the 3 and 9 o clock rails. I had a good bit of trouble installing another sling swivel mount that had to slide down the rail, the cap stuck out just enough to cause me to have to hammer the mount on. If I would have known it was gonna be that tight, I would have installed the mount before putting the rail on the rifle.
