Went with the Pred and 16" barrel. Now what magazine for hunting, limit 5 rounds? I know there is a difference in some of them Armalite, DPMS etc... Which one for these?
TIA OBR or Pred ? 7.62 Max range will most likely be 5-600 yards - hunting and targets. Plan on 16" at this point. Will be an odd day that I get to a range for longer distances. Will also be running a can here and there - OBR has the gas switch - this allows for the action to cycle with subsonics, correct? Main deciding factor here... Now easy ones - Harris bipod with mount - LT-130 or LT-706 (or will it depend on OBR or Pred for the rails?) Scope mount - LT-111 for the OBR or the LT104? Mounting a Busnell Elite 3200 with 600 DOA reticle, will need the LT136 inserts either mount. Thanks for helping a drooling idiot out. ![]() |

The 16" 7.62 PredatAR will definitely reach the distances you'll be using it for, and is designed with hunters in mind.
The "gas switch" (we call it a port selector) was designed to make the standard OBR run at peak efficiency under two different conditions; Unsuppressed and Suppressed (especially while operating a suppressor during high rates of fire). The port selector was not designed for using subsonic loads. Regarding the Bipod, I'd go with the LT706 (with any rifle that has a MIL-STD-1913 handguard interface). I keep an LT706 in my range bag. As for the rings, it really depends on your preferred cheek weld. If you choose the PredatAR, I'd suggest the LT104. If you go with the Standard OBR, I'd choose the LT111, especially if you plan on ever attaching a CNVD (night vision). On the standard OBR, I'd also go with the CTR/RISR combo. |

Thanks mfingar.
Will either the OBR or Pred cycle the action with subsonic loads? Has this even been tried (I would suspect yes but can't find any information)? The loads I am thinking about will be 180 Deep Curls over trail boss and 220 RN over 4198. I appreciate the info and assistance. |

I bought the OBR 7.62 right before the PredatAR was announced. Had I known, I would have waited for the PredatAR. The OBR is absolutely the finest rifle that I have ever shot. But, I will be using it more for hunting than target shooting. And, as a hunting guide, I may carry my rifle all day on spot and stalk hunts. My OBR is a little heavy for that. It will probably be left in the truck or at home when I need to carry a rifle all day. However, I will be doing some coyote hunting with it, where I know it will shine.
I do have the PredatAR 5.56 on pre-order right now. And, if LaRue Tactical ever offers the PredatAR upper for my OBR, I will order one of those to compliment my current OBR setup. |
