I purchased a complete PSA lower (blem) with the MagPul furniture and mated it to a PSA upper. After a day or two of handling the weapon, I noticed something just didn't seem right with the bolt-hold-open lever; it was very loose and wobbly.

Whoever assembled the lower used a small detente pin (like the one used to install the take-down pins) to secure the bolt-hold-open lever. It turns out someone used the small detente pin to secure the BHO lever instead of the proper 3/32" X 7/16" roll-pin. I couldn't believe PSA would allow something like this to ship out to its customers.

I took pictures of the parts that fell out of the lower assembly and emailed them to PSA customer service, along with the order number and date of purchase. I also called PSA the next day, and after waiting 45 minutes to speak to a person, I explained what happened to the guy on the phone; he searched and found my email while we were on the phone and looked at the pictures. I told him that I did not want a refund (which I don't think they would have done anyway) but that I wanted them to know about it, and that at the very least, they owed me a new 3/32"X 7/16" steel roll-pin. He said he would send the email to his boss.

After several weeks, I still have heard nothing from PSA customer service about this issue. I know PSA products are pretty popular and good products for the price, but I'm thinking their lack of quality control and customer service is going to come back to haunt them at some point. Some may think this is not a big deal, and I'm over-reacting, but this could have been a serious safety issue under the right circumstances.

And, yes, the BHO roll-pin was not expensive, and I fixed it myself, but it is the principle of the matter.

PSA, I'm glad you've been successful thus far, and I would likely buy from you again, but your product quality control and customer service need improvement.

Just curious...

I posted this thread about a week ago and have noticed that the PSA rep here has responded to several other threads, but still ignoring this one. Of course, they have a right to respond to the threads they choose and ignore the others.

At this point, it really doesn't matter anymore. PSA, I still like your products, but you've shown your true colors (at least to me) in terms of good customer service. Bottom line... it's not so good.

Okay, thanks for the reply.

I'm still new here and don't know what IM means. But I'll figure it out.

Thing is, I ain't asking for much... I've already stated I did not want a refund on the lower; I fixed the bolt-hold-open lever myself, which likely voided any warranty. I figured there was no need to ship the lower back (whether on your dime or mine) just for the BHO lever roll-pin install.

Here is what I'd like from PSA... an apology for sending me a complete lower with the BHOL installed incorrectly (take-down pin detente pin used to secure the BHOL instead of the proper 3/32" X 7/16" steel roll-pin) and a BHOL roll pin to replace the one I bought at the hardware store in order to fix the lower. That would make me feel better about the whole thing. And, like I said, that ain't asking for much.

Thanks again for the reply.

P.S. IM sent, including order #

As an update, I wanted to add that PSA is in the process of addressing this issue for me. I appreciate this forum in general and the Industry sub-forum in particular so things like this can be addressed. If a company is making an effort to make things right with their customers, that's speaks well of the company.

Thanks.

Funny thing is the first Ruger AR556 we received at the store I work at had the same issue.

It's better to use a smaller pin than to try and use the roll pin from a trigger guard assembly.

Some guy in a pole barn tried that...

Yes, some of the parts in the lower build kit are similar in size. The take-down pin detente spring is not much smaller than the safety lever detente spring, but will not go in the TDP spring holes.

There's a pretty big difference between the BHOL roll-pin and the trigger-guard roll-pin, in length and diameter. There is a huge difference between the TDP detente pin and the BHOL roll-pin. So, there's no excuse there. It is possible the assembler used the detente-pin to align the BHOL in place before installing the roll-pin, and just forgot the install the roll-pin. But still, that's a big mess-up in my view, especially when I'm the one who got the lower with the wrong pin.

But I know mistakes can happen in the assembly environment. That's why I'm starting to enjoy building my own lowers. I know what I've got, and if I screw something up it is on me, instead of buying something already assembled with a defect.

In addition to the above comments, I do appreciate PSA stepping in to remedy the problem. They did send me the correct roll-pin to replace the one I purchased to fix the lower.
