| I just received a comp m3 from larue, and I don't think it's functioning correctly. The dot seems to be distorted, almost looks like a miniature spider web and seems to almost shift shapes. I'm assuming the first four clicks are for NVD, but there's nothing showing up. Did I get a defective unit? What's the procedure for sending this back to you guys... :( |

From the Aimpoint web site, click on FAQs: "The dot in my Aimpoint sight doesn't look round. Is it defective? If your dot does not appear to be perfectly round, the distortion is probably caused by the way that your eye perceives the dot, rather than by some mechanical defect. Due to differences in the lenses in different individuals' eyes, round objects that subtend areas near 3 minutes of angle may appear distorted in a variety of ways depending on the individual and other environmental influences. Inexpensive red dot sights sometimes have manufacturing defects that can cause the dot to be an odd shape. A simple test that can be easily performed will allow you to determine the cause of the apparent distortion: * Turn the sight on and look through as you normally would. (This test is easiest when the sight is not mounted on a firearm, but can be performed with the sight mounted as well. Just make sure that the firearm is unloaded and pointed in a safe direction.) * While continuing to look through the sight, roll the sight on its optical axis. * If the dot's irregularities seem to revolve around the center of the dot like the spokes of a wheel, there is a mechanical defect causing the distortion. * If the dot does not roll with the sight, the distortion is caused in the way your eye perceives the dot. This is not to say that you don't have good vision. You can see clearly and still see a distortion in objects this small. This effect is less pronounced in sights with larger dots. More people will see the dot in a sight with a 10 minute-of-angle dot as being perfectly round than will be able to see a 3 MOA dot as round." |

* If the dot's irregularities seem to revolve around the center of the dot like the spokes of a wheel, there is a mechanical defect causing the distortion. This would be the problem....it looks like a small wheel or spiderweb...the spokes do not "roll" persay..even my wife says it looks abnormal. it almost looks like a little stick figure man, even my wife sees the same as me..sometimes it looks more spiderwebish, then it seems to shift a little..hrm |

Yea, I do in my right eye...issue seems the same whether looking out of either eye...I put my glasses on, it did seem to help the issue...hrm, maybe a different type of optic would of been a better choice rather than the aimpoint...im at a loss now, been staring at the dot too long..seemed ok at the range the other day...i usually shoot with glasses on at the range and am focusing on the target not the little dot...i think the site is fine...just wondering now if i should of went with something different because of having less than perfect vision...my vision isn't horrible or anything, but that astigmatism sucks and has gotten worst over the years where ive been starting to wear glasses. |

Are you focusing on the dot? Cause you shouldn't be... That can cause it to look funny as well. With an Aimpoint you're supposed to focus out on the target, not the dot, with both eyes open. Then bring the rifle up until the dot appears in your field of view secondarily. Mount the scope and aim at something(non-living) more than 10-15ft away FOCUSING YOUR EYES ON THE TARGET and the dot will become a lot more crisp. The farther away your target, the better the dot will look. |

i had the same problem but i called up aimpoint and we worked it out.... you need to quit looking at it in your house... try this..take it outside and look through it.. on a nice sunny day.. and ill bet ya the dot will look round i was doing the same thing messing with my gun and looking through the aimpoint at night. and the dot looked distorted and it would star out. but then i took it outside and it looked perfectly round. |

You have an astigmatism in one or both eyes. The dot looks round out in the sun because the "webs" or "spokes" you perceive are overwhelmed or overridden by the brightness of the sunlight. Don't sweat it...an astigmatism is no big deal and your Aimpoint will work fine for you. BTW, you have excellent taste in sights! Aimpoints RULE! |
