So i am thinking of getting the midlength battle rails But i am wondering how strong they are. Has anyone notice any wobble in them and i hate the fact that the rail doesn't extend to the upper receiver but thats the breaks Pssshhh make a drop in rail that extends all the way lol. Also what kind of discount does troy offer to military members. After meeting the troy guys at guns along the mohawk shoot i would really like to buy something from troy we had one hell of a time there and they have some really nice products.

Any info would be great

Thanks

There's a tensioning lever with a screw on the bottom handguard just behind the FSB, as well as 4 screws at the corners to lock the top & bottom together. Simple install instructions are included with the handguards, and as long as you follow those, it's rock solid. I have a buddy with an M&P15 that has OEM Troy carbine-length drop-ins, and for whatever reason, those don't have the tensioning lever, and have a little slop in them. Nothing huge, just mildly annoying. I don't know if that's the case on all of Troy's carbine length drop-ins, or just a cost-saving measure on their contract pieces for S&W.

As for the top rail extending back to the receiver, I'm no expert, but it looks like there's not enough room over the delta-ring for the rail to get past them. Only way to get it to work would be to install a new, lower-profile delta ring, which would require removal of the FSB, which kinda defeats the purpose of drop-in handguards. Might as well buy a free-float if you're going to go to all that trouble; they're not that much more expensive.

Daniel Defense's EZ rails extend back to the upper, but you'll notice that the section of rail directly over the delta ring is pretty thin, and there are no slots there, I'd guess because that section isn't strong enough to bear much of a load.

All that being said, they're super light, they work great, and the front & rear sling cups are awesome!

Hi,
The drop-in rails hold very secure. I have several on my personal rifles and there is NO slop, or rail rotation. If your delta ring spring is not strong you may notice some play in the rail but that is due to the lack of tension on the delta ring, and not the rail design. There is a tension lever than contacts the barrel to keep the rail from moving up or down, and the screws on the side of the rails lock the top and bottom portions together. We also make MRF free float rails that lock to the barrel nut as another option. This does require the removal of the delta ring and spring but utilizes the existing barrel nut.
