I haven't had the chance to put my FUG on the rifle yet  but I was just wondering which extension folks use and where they mount it (i.e. closer to the receiver or not). Also, if you use a certain extension, like the stubby one, what advantage does that provide over the long one?

I use the stubby and have it as close to my receiver as allowed

I use the stubby since only my pinky, ring finger, and middle finger rest on it.  I grip it similiar to placing my offhand on a pistol.  I mounted it about 4 or 5 slots away from the receiver.  That felt most comfortable.

I use the stubby.  I mount it about 5 slots in from the muzzle end of the handguard.  Wrap my index finger around the handguard, middle finger is partially on the handguard and partially on the FUG, ring and little finger wrap around the FUG.  Thumb rests along the top of the handguard.  X300 on the right side, use my middle finger to activate it.

I use the med. length right now.  However, in the future, that may change.

Hence the awesomeness of the FUG

Stubby, with a little bit of teflon paste on the threads and O-ring to make it easier to take the plug off by hand. Sometimes there just isn't a quarter to be found. :p

Right now I have the med extension and it is mounted as far away from the magwell (on a carbine) as possible.

stubby for me too, and I had mine in close to the magwell also.... until I tried to do a tac reload (as seen on TV) , and bashed my knuckles on the bottom of the FUG... Since then I've moved it out a bit... YMMV...

Since you asked,  my FUG preference is OD, which I hope is coming out of Leander soon,  out as far as possible on a mid-length rail with the long-flanged cap, I like the stability of this config.  I'm not busting down doors or jumping out of cars with the AR, so this config works for me.  On the other hand, my brother who has busted down doors & jumped out of cars likes it closer to the mag well.

He's indifferent on the color, kinda tells you something, huh?

Medium length.  Makes it similar size to the KAC grips I have.

I put it in the middle of the carbine length rail( I have a SBR, so I wont put to all the way forward lest I put a finger near the muzzle)

On my Rifle, I put it near the middle of the rail.

My two are stubby and both are more than 1/2 way out, almost 2/3 of the way out on a YHM quad rail on a 20" SS ARmalite setup, and the other the same on my LaRue 18"/13.2 Stealth upper.

Since you asked…

Larue FUG, LT 110 EoTech Mount, LT-649T & Rear BUIS

Hey Mark, wouldn’t an OD FUG look good on this set up?
