I picked up a Colt 6520 last weekend.

This is my first complete Colt rifle.  It's a lite weight little bastard, I'll say that.

I don't know if I am going to optic it or not, right now it's wearing a Crimson Trace A2 Lasergrip, and I gotta say it's pretty slick.

I didn't get a chance to shoot it this weekend, but there is always next weekend.

Anything I should know about owning Colts?

Only thing you should know is that you have an AR15 from the finest AR15 manufacturer in the world.

I love the 6520 myself.  If yours came with the oval M4 handguards you can purchase the standard smaller diameter from specialized armament.  They are not cheap however, and no longer made by Colt.  For some odd reason I think the slimmer handguards compliment the light weight.

Quite a few people that don't own a Colt will be jealous,  thus they will not like your gun.

It came with shiney slim handguards, I'm actually thinking of trying some MOE handguards on it.  It's my only carbine length handguard AR I currently own.  I'm not much interested in owning a set of the Oval handguards, so I'm glad it wasn't wearing them:)

I am impressed with it so far.  When I bought it it was wearing an ACOG on the carry handle, for a price that I just couldn't pass up, even if I had to charge it:)

I have no clue how old it is, but it's hard not to smile when I fondle it:)

If you are curious about the age pop the handguards off and look for the two-digit date code on the barrel, usually on the side of the barrel by the delta ring

Congratulations!

Let me put it to you this way. The Colts I grew up shooting are older than I am. While they're getting worn out now, they've had countless thousands of rounds downrange, and still are reasonably accurate.

You won't be disappointed.

ah ha, date code of 05/06.  That's good to know.

The more I fondle this carbine, the more I like it.

I golt a 6520 for Christmas. I put the slim handgaurds on mine. To me the pencil barrel just looked strange with the fat M4 handgaurds. It's a nice light little carbine. You'll never regret aquiring it.

CAR15 handgurds are the only way to go on that model for me

Very nice!

The 6520 is one of my all time favorites-I have two of them in my collection. I say "in my collection" because they aren't really mine anymore- my wife and daughter have claimed them

That's what I see happening to this one, my wife right now has a light weight build that's wearing an el-cheapo model 1 sales upper.  She'll probably want me to move the YHM Lightweight float tube over, and then steal one of my EOTechs, but she'll be a happy camper I'm sure:)

I bought some of the carbine handguards- just in case later in life I needed another set.

I looked at them today thinking...they'd look great on a new 6720 from Clyde's.  Maybe it's getting later in life.

That's the problem with purchasing parts, lowers, etc- they seem to turn into complete rifles after a while.

I guess there's worse afflictions.

You nailed it

There are far FAR worse things you could be spending your money on.

My wife gave me grief about spending money on this hobby once. I responded by reminding her that I don't go out drinking every night with the boys, I don't do drugs or anything else illegal, I don't gamble, and I don't screw around. Our bills are paid, and she only works because she wants to-not because she has to.

She thought about it for a second, gave me a kiss on the cheek, and the subject hasn't come up since

Congratulations! I just bought a 6520 myself about 6 weeks ago. Had ADCO cut the barrel to 14.7" and perm the flash suppressor, added the older style Colt handguards and buttstock

That's the same handguards on my 6520.  I'll take pics one of these days.

Ah hell, I have BRD something fierce already.  I have three Colt 20" barrels in builds, 2 gov profile 1 HBAR (and damn that's a good shooting rifle).

I think I'm on... my 9th AR pattern rifle? :)  Who knows, maybe more Colts are in my future.  I should hit the range Saturday and find out how this little guy shoots.

Looking forward to your range report

ETA: No pressure though
