I have a SP1 lower with a front takedown pin that requires a slotted screwdriver on each side to get it off. What do I need to replace this pin to install a new M4 type upper on it?

Assuming by "M4 type" you are referring to the A3 Flattop; In most cases they will be small pin, whereas you will need an "offset" adaptor pivot pin for replacement.  They are available from Brownells, DPMS, Bushy, and so on.  Someone on the board probably has one also.  If you have problem finding one, email me.. I'm sure I have an extra laying around here.

I also recall someone making a run of large pin flattops.. can't recall if it was Les Baer or other (members - Help???)

As a note, the offset adaptor pin also screws from both sides.  There may be more options available.. see what other members suggest also.

Newt, All you need is a offset pin for a easy price of six dollars and change. The pin can be found at Bushmaster.  Two years ago a completed a M4 project using a SP1 lower and a Bushmaster M4A3 upper and the this pin system will be the ticket. The pin allows you to mate a large hole Colt lower to a Military small hole upper. Good to go...
