| Building a new AR with a 18" Larue Stealth barrel. Planning on purchasing my first suppressor in the near future, should I get a Larue gas block or one of the SLR adjustable gas blocks? Really wish Larue made an adjustable one. |

Since. You can't buy the two position LaRue gas port, I would buy the adjustable. I have had good luck thus far with my Syrac unit on my 6.8 SPC II home built weapon. I bought a custom barrel from another company that won't be named for the sake of propriety. Since I have a large amount of Remington 115gr ball ammo that is SPC 1 safe, they opened up the gas port for reliability sake.
Since I will also be shooting the Remington Premier match I have stashed as well, I wanted to be sure it wasn't overgassed. Right now I have it set perfect for the Premier match, that may change as I am having to convert it to A2 style from Carbine, and I still need to test it with the ball ammo. The benefit I see from the Syrac is the adjustment is in detent clicks. So if you go too far one way, it is easy to go back to the spot you just left. With you running suppressed, you can adjust for that and then keep track of the number of clicks to where it shoots fine unsuppressed... It is also low profile and fits under my handguard fine. |

Syrac is $113 at Brownells. I would normally provide a link, but not sure how to do it in the new format here. Just fried the power supply on the desktop, and hopefully nothing else, so I am temporarily stuck with the iPad Mini.....
Again, the Syrac will fit under your handguard, doesn't look like your SLR will. Obviously it is your money and therefore your choice. Good luck on your build!!!!! |

Which handguard won't the SLR won't fit under? The Syrac gas block will only allow one screw, because of the spacing with the LaRue barrel, won't it? |

Right now, I still need to finish the conversion of an AR-15 and an AR-10 to A2 style buttstocks. The AR-10 also needs a forestock so my purchasing power is limited at this time. I also have a complete AR-15 lower that needs an MBT or Black Gold Trigger to relace the stock trigger group. This is being built as an AR5.7...
Once I get some trigger time behind the new AR-10 build with the LaRue Field grade barrel and MBT, I may decide to buy an MBT for the TOBR and put the Black Gold that it came with in the 5.7. Currently, every AR I have has a Black Gold in it except the large pin Colt (JP) and the 90% completed AR-10 mentioned above.... |

My Syrac is on an AR Performance 6.8 SPC II barrel and fits fine under a Troy battlerail. Both my LaRue barrels have LaRue 2 position gas ports The picture of the SLR looks like it has a lot hanging below the barrel. Also, unless I somehow screwed the pooch, it looked like a clamp on not one with set screws for the bottom of the barrel..... I will have to check out the link again..... Ok, I went back again and they show both types. Guess that's what I get for being in a hurry...... BTW: I think they had a discussion on the board two or three months ago on which gas blocks would fit the LaRue barrel spacing. Might be worth your while to do a search for it..... |

SLR makes them in .450 spacing which is what the LaRue barrels are and why they get recommended here. |
| Heads up with the SLRs on RightToBear, best I can tell from product codes, only the Sentry 6 with .400 spacing is available. I wasn't able to find the .450, though the Sentry 7 is available with it. I guess I could have overlooked it and I didn't reach out to them to see if they had .450 available, just ordered it from SLR with the 15% off. They got it to me in two business days. |

As others have mentioned, Larue barrels have .450" set screw spacing, so adjustable set screw-style gas block options are limited. No fault of LaRue though - gas block set screw spacing varies by manufacturer, and seems to be all over the place.
I've been very pleased with the SLR's on my LaRue barrels. I'm also proud to support a company that identified a need and got them on the market in short order. Sentry 6 Set Screw Adjustable Gas Block - .450" for 5.56 tAR barrels. Sentry 7 Set Screw Adjustable Gas Block - .450" for 5.56 Stealth barrels and 7.62 tAR barrels. Both sizes are also available in Titanium. SLR Sentry 6/7 dimensions: ![]()
