With all the shit currently going on, I thought I better stock up on 25rndrs while I can so I bought 4 x evo mags. Took 1 to the range the other day and had lots of issues:
Lots of failure to fire caused by the bolt not going all the way forward. Bolt rarely locked back, it looks like the follower is pushing the pin on the BHOA backward and upwards instead of just upwards resulting in excessive friction. I have a Spikes ST22 with a Gen 1 BHOA which has worked pretty much flawlessly with gen 1 BDM mags and BHO followers. I know there is now a gen 2 BHOA with a 45 deg angle cut somewhere that I presume would solve my second issue. I've read it's an easy mod to do yourself but can't find any pictures to show what I need to do, can anyone help? I've read about a few different mods to try and get the mags to run properly including clipping the bolt catch spring & removing material from the underside of the bolt (not too keen on this one). Does anyone have any other suggestions? Cheers! |

According to CMMG, the evo mags are discontinued and the replacement is two months or more away. I've heard the Black Dog mags are better but I don't know if they work with the BHO kit. Yes, I have heard that new mags are on the way from CMMG and no, BDM's won't work with the CMMG BHOA. Dave |

I have been having the same problems as you for about a year now. I have not got it running smoothly since I bought it. The main problems are the bolt not holding back on empty and the rounds not going into the chamber and the bolt jamming with a round in the chamber. I have found that this is caused when the rims of the round move slightly toward the front of the magazine, which causes the round to flip up ever so slightly vertically. I have tried everything from the enhanced firing pin and plug, oring around the bolt catch, buzzing the chamber, different ammo, different mags, cleaning and lubing, adjusting the BHOA etc. I added a BAD lever and it made it ever worse so that is now off. This about sums up my year with my 22 M4LEP upper: |
| I thought I had fixed the issue by clipping the bolt catch spring and filing some material off the top of the BHOA. It worked fine in the shed but not in the range. I was sick of wasting time on it so I bought a Gen II BHOA. I'm still waiting for it but if it still doesn't work, I'll be sending the mags back, forgetting about last round bolt lock back and buying some of the new BDMs. |

Do yourself a favor and just get the Better-Mag adapter and some M&P15-22 magazines. Works flawlessly compared to the headache that is the CMMG BHOA. The CMMG bolt conversion with those mags (and the adapter) works friggin' awesome. The CMMG BHOA guide slot allows the metal piece to rotate/tilt/lean in too many directions so the Evo mags can't overcome that to push the metal piece and thus the lower's bolt release worth a damn. With the Better-Mag adapter, it actuates 100% reliably thus far and that is with using a BAD lever. Video.

Okay cool. I'm in Cali anyways so I need 10 rounders Quoted: Correct, the M&P15-22 mags are different shape at the top than CMMG style of mags. The M&P15-22 mags by ProMag work well and are available to order at reasonable prices but they are longer than the regular S&W 25rd mags. The ProMags are 32rd. |

ProMag has 10rd version also, but not sure you want to deal with the length, as they aren't shorter than the 32rd version. |
