What modifications would you suggest be done on a factory Glock 17 for reliability/performance? I am also curious what Chris has modified - I didn't find any threads that discussed this topic.
Since I'm not a gunsmith, I would also be interested in suggestions on who does good work for any modifications. Thanks. |

Reliability mods on a Glock? With few expections I've found the more aftermarket crap you add to a Glock, reliability starts falling off. Depending on what you have, you might upgrade sights, swap the trigger (I prefer the stock trigger), and buy mags and a holster. You can do 99% of Glock work yourself.
If it doesn’t fix a problem for you or make you a better shooter, don’t add it, remove it or dick with it. Just one man’s humble opinion. |

SPRINCO HK-type mainspring/buffer... my G17 feels like a fuckin airsoft gun recoil-wise! Put a 3lb trigger and it's like having a freakin rate-reduced G18!
Seriously... it's like a .22 mag recoil & climb with light loads... maybe a heavy .380 or .32 when shooting +P+ through her. I can run it all day and never have my hand or wrist get sore. There are a couple other products using the same system out there... Israeli DPM is a GREAT one... as good as the Sprinco but Sprinco is US made and has great customer service so I usually go with them. Either way, a good HK-type cam/spring system is the BEST functional accessory you can get... at least in my opinion. Sprinco DPM Aside from that, the reduced weight disconnect and polish the contact points mirror smooth. I have a 3.5 disconnect in my 17, 21 & 27... all have the contact points polished and I get a true 3lb pull. (the 3.5 will give you an actual 5lb pull in most cases) Maybe extended mag release and I'm partial to the extended slide release since I keep "on-target" when reloading. Grip-tape... stock grips blow and the rubber sleeve is crap. Either get the Decal-grip brand or cut skateboard tape yourself. The AGRIP is awesome but doesn't wear well... good for a CC on G26/27 but full-sized that you shoot a lot... stick with the tape or have your frame "stippled" Oh yea... sights... that's user preference. Oh yea, if you got a 22 or 23 in .40... highly suggest a Lone Wolf 9mm conversion... not only cheaper but more accurate in my experience. Great for practice if the $350 .22 conversion seems a bit stiff and one-dimensional. |

Pretty much agree with the members who said to leave the innards alone. Sites, extended mag release, and possibly a slide stop, otherwise the gun should be good to go.
The only exceptions I would add are grip decals (plastic guns get slippery when running them hard (sweat) and if needed, Arindondo makes about the only mag extensions I will use (+5 for a 9mm), +4 for 40 and I believe +3 for 45acp. Expensive but they rock. Romper |
