I'm really schmoozing getting an 18" Stealth Upper and a Billet Lower from LaRue and now I am tosseling around what length of rail to get with it...
Any input? Any rule of thumb? General equasion? to go by? I'll put a verticle grip on it. I kinda wish I could get the upper with feed ramps....but I guess feed ramps are not so important. Thanks. |

I think it's mostly subjective. I like the look of really long rails, but I like keeping weight down too. Usually the practical side of me wins. But you may have different priorities.
You may want your bipod way out front, or have a ton of gear to hang on the rails. Maybe figuring that out will help you make up your mind? |

Thanks.
I am going to be more interested in creating a target rifle out of it, more than a "combat" rifle, so I don't think I'm going to have a lot of need for rail space. I'll mount a nice scope on it. Not a Red Dot or ACOG, a nice target scope with some length to it. No flashlight, nothing like that. |

I think if you are going to go the target route, you will want to get a longer rail. Do some looking around. I believe you will like the way a "target" scope looks with a longer rail. The longer rail seems to balance the look with the target scope better. With an 18" barrel I would go at least 11 or 12. Just my .02 |
