Here’s my dilemma.  I ordered and purchased two RRA stripped lower receivers in March of 09 through a local gunshop.  I wanted to build them up as my as my budget allowed since I didn’t have money at the time so I put them in the safe.

Last summer I had built up a little cash and purchased a RRA 2 stage trigger and RRA lower parts kit through class3firearms.com and proceeded to build the lower.  Everything went well except that the magazine release seemed to be a little sloppy and wanted to jam up some of the time.  If the magazine release button is not pushed in at dead center it tilts to one side or the other and jams in the receiver not allowing it to be pushed in far enough to release the magazine.  Being my first build I thought I did something wrong.  I took it apart and reinstalled it at least five times even making the threading the mag catch flush, past and below the mag release button with the same result.  I also tried it on my other receiver and had the same results.  It seemed to me that the hole diameter in the receiver that accommodates the mag catch is either too big or the mag catch diameter is too small.

Next I called RRA and talked to a rep.  He seemed to have a hard time understanding the problem and I think he thought I just didn’t know what I was doing, he even seemed a little irritated.  I explained that the mag catch shaft diameter might be too small or the lower receiver hole might be too big.  So I told him to send me a new mag catch and I would try before dealing with the receiver itself.

A week later I was sent a bolt catch instead of a mag catch.  I had to call them back and had them send me the right part.  After receiving the new mag catch I installed it with the same results.  I became frustrated and just put it all back in the safe.

Now before I call RRA and make a fuss I just wanted to get some get some feedback since this is my first build.  Could I be doing something wrong?  There is only the mag catch itself, the spring and the mag release button, I don’t know how I could put it together wrong.   Like I said previously, I adjusted how deep I threaded the catch into the mag button many different ways, nothing seems to help.

I measured the mag catch hole in the receiver with a vernier caliper and it is .200 (5.08mm), with the mag catch shaft diameter at .185(4.70mm).  Does anyone know if these measurements are in spec?

I finally have the cash to purchase an upper and had my eye on a RRA predator pursuit but I am apprehensive till I get this problem resolved.  I spent top dollar on two lowers and expected them to be top quality, that’s why I chose to go with RRA.  I’m hoping I’m doing something wrong and there is an easy fix.  Any input would be greatly appreciated.

is your mag catch button actually IN the lower, or is it just screwed down until it contacts the lower?

Does it look like this:

or does it stick out further?

I'ts in the lower just like the picture.  I tried threading in at different depths but still have the same problem.

I think I understand what you're describing, but without seeing it, I'm not sure either.
We can have iit come in on a return authorization and actually diagnose it for you.  If it's soemthing that's covered bythe warranty, we can fix it for you at no expense to you.

Is it legal to ship lower recievers directly to RRA or do you have to go through a FFL?

Right to us on an RMA (return authorization) is fine.  No FFL needed as it's yours and it's coming to the original manufacturer for "repair".
Just tell me you aren't in California.

No, I'm from Pennsylvania.  Thanks for all your input and I'll repost when I get it straightened out.

Sent the recievers in on return authorization a week ago and got them back today, the problem was there were burrs inside the mag catch slots and RRA removed them at no charge.  Great service and quick turnaround, couldn't be happier.
