A few weeks ago I bought a used Larue Aimpoint mount off of ebay. When I mounted it on my rifle there appears to be a small amount of play between the mount and the rifle. Since I have heard people say over and over that Larue Mounts are "rock solid," I have the following theories:
1. The mount I bought has a worn out throw lever allowing it to have a little bit of play. 2. The mount I have is not a true Larue, but a very good (in appearance anyway) copy. Is there anything that I should look for to identify it as a fake? It seems to match the picture on the Larue website. 3. The rail on my rifle is out of spec. I can't remember what brand of upper reciever I used on this rifle but it would either be a DPMS, Stag, or Wilson Tactical. What should the width of the rails be? I've examined the mount and can't find any way to adjust it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Jake |

If the mount that you bought is a copy....then that is the problem.
If you bought a real LaRue mount it would be....PERFECT Try this website |

Thanks, I found the place on Larue's web site that tells you how to adjust the throw lever. I'll try it tonight and see if that takes care of the problem.
EDIT: After reading the instructions it sounds like that only adjusts how hard the throw lever is to turn, but I'll give you an update after I try it anyway. |

The best advice I can give you is don't buy anything off e-bay for a weapon period. Imitations run a muck on E-bay. Take it as a loss and order the real deal.
1. Some airsoft kid is chuckling right now. 2. You bought if off e-bay. 3. possible, but I would go with #1 or #2. |

I had mainly bought it off ebay because, I had never had a chance to look over a Larue mount first hand and hated to drop that kind of money until I was sure that it wasn't just hype. After properly fitting this one, I'm convinced and will probably pick up a mount for my varmint rifle before too long. |

I ask because there are some really good fakes out there for the Airsoft crowd that look the part but once you lean on them, they fail at the worst possible moment. Wes |

Look at the How To Get Your Money's Worth out of AR15.com thread over in the team membership forum under the general forums tab.
Some of the cheaper mounts use a paint/printing system vs. laser engraving to put the marks on the mount. If you can rub them off it's a fake. At $65 shipped, and it looks brand new, I'd say you got a fake. At 65 plus shipping but looks like was ridden hard and held up fine, you got the real deal at a great price. Where did it ship from?
