I bought a new STR yesterday at a local gun show from a trusted vendor and was surprised last night with how difficult it was to install.  I followed the directions to the letter but had to push the locking pin down with my finger and then use the included dummy round to lodge under the release lever.  Then it fit and functioned perfect.  I was simply test fitting this on a different rifle and would like to remove it for when I have my new buffer tube to install it on the correct lower.  Now I can't get it off the tube because the release lever doesn't pull that pin down far enough to disengage the stock.

Short of prying with a screw driver, am I missing something?  I tried pulling the release lever like you would with an MOE/CTR or with a standard m4 stock but its hinged differently.  What am I doing wrong?

BTW, I love this stock!  Plan to replace my 2 MOE's with it when money comes up and the FDE version comes out!

OK here is a trick I used when I couldn't find a dummy round. It worked so well I use it all the time.

Find a wire coat hanger and fold it in half ( vertically under the hook). The two ends can be hooked over the release pins and can be pulled down together to install and remove the stock very easily.

Have to try that one.  I usually grab a big set of channel locks and a rag...

I use an allen wrench.

Stick the shorter end in the hole in the pin, put the outside of the 90 degree bend on the body of the stock, and apply some leverage.  Works every time.
