From what I understand they have more on order.

Considering it's an 11.5 heavy barrel  with the IAR heat sink I would assume Colt will make as many as demand requires, as long as the parts remain. Doesn't seem like many were produced even for export but the short configuration makes it even more unique. I personally like the Colt 6940 platform and this has a cool factor that can't be denied for my stable. AU has set themselves apart with the unique Colt offerings that some people enjoy collecting just because of it's history

While this is 100% logical, that's not how Colt seems to operate.  Hopefully, they'll come through on more of these.

AU has set themselves apart with the unique Colt offerings that some people enjoy collecting just because of it's history

AU certainly gets unique Colt offerings but be careful.  They put combinations of parts together to make them seem like new Colt products when in fact Colt never offered those combinations.  The worst part is that they're deliberately vague about it when they could simply provide the complete story that everyone wants.

All true Bret I’m aware but the former Colt never strayed or offered much innovation which was their ultimate demise to include the greedy corporate thinking that has consumed many companies it’s a long list. To me it seems perhaps there is a new way to think over at Colt I would hope anyway.

My IAR upper arrived this morning. It is a little different than the pictures on the website. It has a Colt Raptor charging handle and a rear Magpul Pro sight. The carrier is C marked and the bolt has MP and a white dot. It's coated in a ton of grease. It did come in a Colt box with the proper PN# on the box.
1/6/2025 12:34:30 PM EDT
[#6]
Sounds like a win overall.

The Raptor is a good charging handle from my experience and is what comes on the M5-series. Colt upper receiver conversion kits typically don't come with any sights as well. If a person doesn't like the Magpul Pro buis, they could sell it for a few bucks and buy a preferred replacement.

Got mine an hour ago, just got the little piggy set up. 11# exactly as seen here. The Raptor CH is a nice touch over the standard milspec any day. Nicely oiled and I'm very pleased.
Hopefully will get to the range next week or so and hammer some steel!!

Can anybody chime in on why this is called a 6933ck upper when it's not? a monolithic upper is 694x series?? I reached out to AU for the answer but didn't get a reply but seems rather odd to
ID it as a regular 11.5" upper that has plastic handguards ie; 6933ck. Just trying to understand the logic of the numerical and especially when the original was called a 6940IAR https://smallarmsreview.com/the-colt-iar6940-infantry-automatic-rifle/

The 6933IAR designation was assigned by Colt. My best guess is someone thought it was a good idea to call it a 6933IAR since the 6933 is an 11.5" barrel firearm. That theory is simply a desperate reach for me. Unfortunately historical analysis/affiliation doesn't always take place during product development and SKU assignments.

[Last Edit: mew][Edited] [#11]
sounds too dumb to be true but thanks for the input, why not call it a 6940 which it is?? I'm miffed. I will post if AU ever answers my inquiry. sure doesn't make sense to me but not much does anymore but especially speaking about Colt and the nomenclature ie; M4, Commando, IAR, SCW etc. In essence numbers mean something "usually" Colt purists cannot be happy LOL.......

Got mine in yesterday and just opened it.

Has a very obvious blue tint to it in the heat sync which I thought odd. Also patent marked.

Anyone else like this?

That is an odd shade but very distinct I dig the contrasts, I wonder if yours was one of the FBI spec. perhaps to meet a shade they wanted don't think it would get disclosed even if it was.
mine shown here is distinctly very dark almost entirely so, very uniform which isn't typical of Colt IMO.

I see one on Gunbroker for $5K.  That does seem a bit steep.  Source for claim that there will be more in stock?

No cam pin wear plate in the upper. Interesting.

The absence of the cam pin plate is intriguing for some of us because it has been a standardized production feature for all monolithic upper receivers used in production for many years. The absence of the cam pin plate could hint at an early production upper receiver being used in current production.

Are the piston uppers still available (foreign sales/mil/leo/etc)?

with a piston uppers still available it would make sense to make one upper with reinforcement that would work on both platforms.

If not it could be just a cost saving measure since a DI gun won’t need it

Which makes no sense to me.

Doesn't it stand to reason, the IAR would benefit the most from the plate?

Wouldn't be worth buying it if from Arms Unlimited, they are just lazy pieces of excrement to deal with.

Is anyone else carrying this?  You can usually find everything that AU carries cheaper somewhere else...

In initial 6940-series and 6940P production, there was no cam pin plate reinforcement. When internal receiver wear in piston guns became evident, the cam pin reinforcement plate was added. After a brief time of trying to keep a seperate stock of reinforced upper receivers available for piston guns and a non-reinforced upper inventory for the other 6940-series guns, Colt decided it was cheaper and easier to standardized the cam pin reinforcement for all 6940-series production. This eliminated the need to track seperate uppers for production.

To answer the question about 6940P production...The 6940P was sold in the LE and military space and only appeared in the commercial market briefly. Commercial demand was small and production of the 6940P is costly. So, with the lack luster commercial sales, it was withdrawn from commercial distribution. The 6940P has never been out of production, it has just been sold in the LE and military space currently. There is rumor of a potential return of the 6940P commercially in 2025. But...just rumor at this point.

Their return policy sucks hard, but what you said is almost exactly the opposite of the truth.  This is particularly true when you consider taxes.

Let me know when you find HK USP Elite 9mm (not .45) in the German Import case somewhere else.  Or Colt OEM2s for what . . . $500?  The only other person to have these IARs was Charlie's Custom Clones and . . . well . . . his/their reputation isn't exactly stellar.

It's all good until they play lazy pieces of **** and hose you... It just takes once, and believe me, if you deal with them long enough, they will show themselves.  All the guys I work with (a few dozen) feel the same way BTW.

I know they were pushing a "Colt govt property M16" several years ago that was a re-stamp and they didn't advertise it as such.  Imagine dropping $35K+ and learning they pulled a fast one... What integrity.

I only took mine out to inspect it before returning it to the box.  However, it just looked like another shade of black to me.  The lower handguard is a different finish, but did not look blue to me.  Maybe in bright light it may have that hue, but I am happy with mine.  It is shipped in a factory Colt box with factory label and was not really a concern for me, so I wasn't too concerned once I saw that it was a legit issue from Colt.

Prescient.

I received 1/2 my order today.  Only half.  Concerned that the other one may have gotten lost, I emailed AU to ask about the other one (recall this was supposed to be a set for me and a friend).  Keep in mind, I never heard from AU other than on Christmas Day when they sent out the "shipping notice" (which has been discussed by others here).

AU's reply was "The owner decided to only send you one."

I mentioned that I had defended them here just over the weekend and asked them to send me a return shipping label and confirm that I would not be tagged with a restocking fee.

"If you return it, you'll be charged with a restocking fee."  So, I guess I'll just make it available for sale elsewhere and hope not to get crushed.

I really have had good experiences with AU (other than their return policy).  It's a shame they're willing to destroy a relationship with a customer so readily (who, just this weekend defended them against claims for doing shitty things to other people).

I've sent my mea culpa to @ColtM4a3 as well

@DanielAU - I'm not sure if you're the owner or not, but this is just crazy . . . literally defended y'all and now you shit on me.  You have a good thing going and as someone who likes what you offer, this is just really unfortunate business practice.

It's very reminiscent of of another business that makes me cringe because they have a great product, but the owner exhibits virtual-hatred toward his customers.  A Texas-based business - Rhymes with Baloo Smacktical.

ETA:  They're not getting more, so whoever is spreading that rumor needs to correct themselves.

AU won’t do anything with mine as they state they were ‘hard to get and I have to contact colt to get it replaced as they are the ones who sold it.’

Way to stand behind your products lol

I get they are ‘resellers’ but if you sell something faulty, even if you didn’t make it, would seem right to make it good with your customer.

IE the EE. If you ship something to a buyer and it’s faulty, it’s up to you to make it right as a seller.

Sorry, just trying to say there was probably only 1. I am curious, though, that if you talked to AU and were told that they were both shorted and not getting more if there's a source for the poster who said there would be more.
