With the new additions MS3 and RSA...
Just wondering if the ASAP is gong to be upgraded or re-designed anytime soon... Gracias... |

How could it be improved or redesigned? What were you thinking about? Keep in mind there is a redesign for the MS3 and we don't know what attachments will be used. IMO, the dangling link on the ASAP can be cut out if the bar on the plate is extended out far enough for a hook clasp. The Noveske end plate with a QD swivel is my preferred solution for now. |

I'm pretty sure that the report of your rifle is a great deal louder than the rattle of that link. Whats the big deal? Remeber the documentary, Predator? Dillion is making a bunch of racket when they are walking (not shooting) and people/aliens/predators could hear them from far off? That is why the rattle is a big deal to some. I believe Mac said it best: You're ghostin' us, motherfucker. I don't care who you are back in the world, you give away our position one more time, I'll bleed ya, real quiet. Leave ya here. Got that?

First, leave that 'documentary' stuff in the zombie thread where it belongs, please. Second, if you attach a sling to the ASAP, as you would in the field, you will find it is MUCH quieter. |

First, who pissed in your cherrios? B; yes, if you attach the sling to the ASAP then you eliminate some of the noise. But that still leaves the link to sit there and do nothing but make noise. Which is probably why the OP was asking if there were any plans by magpul to update the ASAP without the link and possibly with a more protruded connection point. |
| I'm a nobody, but from my use of the ASAP, there is no problem with noise. If you are all loaded up, the rest of your gear is going to make noise too, hell, even your pants make noise when you move, but you still have to walk. If you are really that concerned, cut the loop, but I wonder if it will slide as smoothly without it. For the critical moments when you need it to be as silent as possible, make sure there is a little tension on the sling, it won't rattle. |

Edit: also, regardless of whether you connect to the ring, or directly to the ASAP plate, there are still going to be parts that can make noise if you are using a metal sling attachment to a metal sling mount. I don't know how you can get around that and maintain ambidexterity. |

On one of my carbines I cut the link off of the ASAP and I tied a small loop with 550 paracord in it's place. I hook my MS2 sling to the paracord loop. It is real quiet and still functions pretty well.
That being said, the noise from the link never really bothered me. I guess I just had too much spare time!!! |

Someone said it... black electrical tape. I think there was even a thread in which people dunked their ASAP and MS2s in some kind of polymer coating. Play around some... it is your gear so you should feel free to mod it as you see fit. Nobody will laugh to hard at you... unless you chop your lower in half. |
