Are there two buffers being used by teh LAR-8? One for the collapsible stock flavor and one for the A2 version?
My understanding is that I cannot use my current buffer/spring (from a collapsible stock) if I switch to an A2 stock. Is this correct? Does anybody have a sketch (or dimensional and weight data) for the two and how they differ from Slash's H-Buffer for the UBR stock? |

Yes. There are two different springs and buffers in use, just as their are on their LAR-15 counterparts.
The CAR extension is also longer than a LAR-15 extension, so a CAR extension from a .223-platform should NEVER be used on an LAR-8. The rifle extension is dimensionally the same but manufactured slightly differently. The LAR-8 isn't designed to work with Slash's buffers or any others besides factory. Might these other buffers work? Possibly, but you (the installer) and the manufacturer of the alternative parts are assuming the liability as iut is an unauthorized modification. Sorry, but that's the way it has to be. Years ago we teied one of Slash's buffers and had mixed results. We've also looked at a couple of hydraulic buffers that are "supposed: to work on a specific model of .308 AR, and, again, had mixed results with the LAR-8. The lack of a common platform in the larger platforms (lijke there is withthe AR-15 platform) means that some components and accessories made specifically for one brand may or may NOT work with a similar product from another brand. Unless RRA authorizes a product for use on the LAR-8, PLEASE don't install it. Steve/RRA |
