It looks as if the 1020 reincarnated as a 6940P is on its way.

Now I can't even be anti-piston as a Colt fan. This is true. Yet another product I don't like I have to be neutral about when people clamor for them. Maybe Colt put a sealed gas tube in place to keep crap from getting in there and jamming up the piston if it falls in the mud. Would also be nice if they could have modified the upper and bolt carrier to have rails to actually eliminate carrier tilt. Not just reduce it with coatings, oversized carriers, cutting the carrier, or fancy receiver extensions. |

I wish I could remember the detaisl for it I will stick with DI anyways though. though they make a piston, i am sure they dont feel its truly needed . even the iAR when submitted was not a piston when all the others were. they shows you the faith they have in DI, adn they know |

Now I can't even be anti-piston as a Colt fan. Colt is about as anti-piston as they get - but they're a business to. Ask 'em the right questions and they'll say flat out, they don't think the piston's worth it, but customer demand is customer demand, and everyone asked 'em to make one, so they did. Remember, two out of their three SCAR submissions were DI as well. That's why it took so long to market after it was "ready." Colt didn't see the need to tool up for unless there were guarenteed sales for a large buy. I guess some distibutors decided to front it. The Colt 1020 was also the first piston design to use the "skids" on the rear of the carrier to prevent carrier tilt. I probably won't buy one unless I find a screaming deal on one, but if I were in the piston market, from everything I've read and seen about the development of the M5, the SCARs, the 1020, the APC, ect. I'm pretty confident Colt has done their homework and testing on this one - far in excess of other manufacturers in bringing it to market, and refused to even consider sales until they thought it was ready. ~Augee |

Quoted: Don't forget to form 1 that lower first mister... Nah, I would probably pin an AAC Blackout like I did with the Colt M4 barrel on my 6920. Tax stamp money is a bit above my paygrade right now, but in three years I'll be a GS-12 and the stamps shall be good. |

...and they also lost that contract to a piston AR, so Colt's faith in the DI AR can seem questionable at times. That being said, I'm not on one side of the DI/Piston fence one way or the other...but I do think it's smart that Colt keeps their options and capabilities to do other OS's on the table. I'm quite interested to see how their 6940P runs. I hope it's slick! |
