What are the differences between the M4 Match Target Carbine and the Law Enforcement version?

Anybody help?

Thanks

LE has a M16 bolt carrier, flash suppressor, bayonet lug and collapsible stock.

The Match target M4 came out after the AWB, and therefore did not have a FH and bayo-lug out of the factory. It had a compensator and pinned stock.

Many if not most have been un-neutered since 9/04, so Veritas, your MT M4 may be one of those.

Hey Redfisher-
How about any differences internally between the LE and MT versions. The reason I ask is because there is an article on the New Jersey State Police site indicating that Colt informed them that even though the MT version looks like an AR-15, there are internal differences. This is why the MT versions don't violate the New Jersey assault weapons ban. Can you comment on this?

As far as I know, the MT has the extened M4 type feedramps.  Probably the only "internal" difference is the sem-auto carrier.  However, Redfisher may know otherwise?

Just a point of clarification. My MT is a 6731. It is an HBar without any muzzle devices. It has an A2 stock and removeable carry handle. Also no bayo lug. I bought it just before the expiration of the AWB.

I guess that is the AWB version of the 6721.

Edit to add: Here is that article on NJSP site

This is confusing. I agree there are substantial differences in an M16 and a AR15, but the article says :

The Colt Match Target Rifle, based on the manufacturer’s specifications, is a new line of rifles and is not part of the AR-15 series, and thus, is not prohibited under N.J.S.A.2 C: 39-1w(1).

Although this new rifle, may resemble the Colt AR-15, there have been substantial changes to the firearm, including the receiver which is not identical to an AR-15 receiver.

In addition, because of changes in the configuration of the firearm, the Colt Match Target Rifle is not substantially identical to a prohibited firearm and prohibited under this classification.

See N.J.S.A.2C:39-1w(2) and Attorney General’s Guidelines Regarding the “Substantially Identical” Provision in the State’s Assault Firearms Laws dated August 19, 1996.

I am inclined to think the author was referring to the sear block that Colt used in some MT guns to prohibit the possibility of illegal conversion to full auto (see photo below from Quarterbore site)

The changes the MT employed were:

the MT used a compensator instead of a flash hider (or no muzzle device at all)
The MT has a pinned stock versus collapsible (or used a fixed)
The MT has a half circle carrier versus AR15 or M16 to prevent use with FA FCG parts

Good reading on the subject right here-------------> Quarterbore - differences in lower receivers

I hope that NJ, NY, Conn, Mass, Ca. and other states do away with their ridiculous restrictions, as the death of the ban in 2004 is evidence the law did zero to curb gun crime, which it was designed to do.

Hope that helps, phantomphixer

Redfisher- Thanks for the response. Who knows what NJ is trying to pull with this one! See my post regarding the configuration of my MT rifle. The MT must have been a series of rifles manufactured by Colt to show that the AWB was strictly an issue of cosmetics.

Some MT6400s (rollmarked Match Target M4 Carbine) came with the M-16 carrier towards the end of the run, IIRC, and I think the LE series may have semi-auto carriers before Colt switched to the M-16 carriers.  I think Colt switched carriers throughout their entire run of semiauto rifles.

Ignoring the carriers, I had an MT6400 and still have a LE6920 and the only difference was:
pinned pseudo-collapsable stock vs collapsing
muzzle brake/compensator pinned on versus flash hider threaded on
no bayonet lug on the FSB
and of course the rollmarks.

The MT6400 had M4 feedramps, M4 stamp on the upper receiver, side sling mount, "F" marked FSB, H buffer, M4 Handguards, unmilled portion of lower receiver (same as 6920) .170 FCG pins (same as 6920).  Nice rifle, I regret selling it.

It seems that Match Target is a shunned name among a few unbelievers, but I can't tell any difference in the lower between the two models except for the pinned fake stock and the rollmark.

I have been trying to find a MT6400C lower to go with my Colt 14.5" SOCOM barrled upper for quite some time.  The last one I saw was going for $600.00 and I was broke at the time
It would seem that they are very collectable due to the "M4" rollmarks.
