I just picked up the eotech XPS and was looking at the LT-110 QD mount. The question I have is, what is the purpose for the raised rail towards the rear of the mount?

I don't own one but here is a quote from the LaRue site
"The design had room for a piece-of-picatinny on the back, so we put it there and now you can mount a PVS-14 in perfect co-witness"
