I have a 7" LaRue free float handguard that has been installed on my Bushy upper for over 2 years.  I just recently purchased a LaRue Stealth Upper and did the swap.  When it was all said and done, there seemed to be a little "play", and by play I mean I could turn the handguard about 1/16" of an inch.  So I stripped it all down and was examining the parts, and it appears that the barrel nut has two holes that are threaded?  Now, I'm not sure if that is the case or if the loctite residue just gives the appearance of threads in those two holes, but the two holes do appear to be smaller than the rest.

The problem would be, if in fact there are suppose to be two threaded holes in the barrel nut for the anti-rotation bolts to thread through, both of my holes threads are stripped that the anti-rotation bolts just slide right through.

It has been a while since I first installed this, so maybe it is not threaded and it just threads into the steel ring, but would like to know if anybody has an answer.

Thanks in advance.

The antirotation collar is not threaded. The bolts slide through that and screw into the barrel nut.

Yeah I know they will stand behind their products, and this isn't a bash LaRue thing, because trust me, if LaRue placed a pile of dog crap in a box with their logo, I would probably be buying it to replace my dogs crap with.

Really this was just to make sure I'm not calling about something that is as designed.  I just don't remember if the two threaded bolts actually thread through the barrel nut and the spacer, or simply just pass through the barrel nut and thread only into the spacer.

Yep, that I'm aware of.  It's the barrel nut that I have the question about.  Is that suppose to be threaded for the bolts as well as the spacer?

So I took a barrel brush and cleaned the holes in the barrel nut and it ended up just being loctite crude left over in the holes. So to answer my question, the barrel ut is NOT threaded. But the keeper is loose when I push it against the upper rail, not sure if the gap in the keeper is suppose to hug the rail tightly or not.

OK, I only did this once so here goes.

First off, here is a link to the instructions on the new site: http://new.laruetactical.com/larue-tactical-70-handguard-lt15-7. You may need to select the Instructions tab.

Second, the instructions are look to be missing the last step. This is where you put the two screws through the keeper, through the barrel nut and into the spacer. Not sure if you have these tightened down and this would account for the loctite.

Third, did you use an Action Block? If you didn't create the relief, you might have tightened the barrel nut and keeper tight to the Action Block and not the upper. This could account for some of the play.

Otherwise, need pictures to help.

Yes the keeper is loose between the receiver and the handguard nut. The barrel nut is the thing that you tighten down to the recommended specs to the upper receiver and the spacer is what is sandwiched between the barrel nut and the handguard. That is what the keeper screws are joined to. Sounds like you got everything else figured out.

Here's a great picture. Password and user ID are both mm. Military Moron takes credit for them.

Thanks for the info, especially the link to the instructions. I am hoping that by cleaning out the loctite reside I might be able to tighten it down more.
