I was thinking of adding the new lightweight barrel to my elite operator when in gets in. I noticed that the specs placed it @ 8.0lbs. I am still going to add the 552 EO Tech and a Forward Grip/ small light (glock). Thought maybe the lighter barrel would knock off some weight of the rifle. Would I be losing any value or performance of the rifle adding this?? The rifle is going to be used daily for Duty and SRT just FYI....

| I would think the lighter weight barrel would make the rifle a little bit easier to carry. I don't think a heavy barrel is necessary if you are not going to be firing 200-300 rounds from a select fire weapon in a short period of time on a regular basis. Even if you did fire a lot of rounds in a short time, the rifle should still have acceptable combat accuracy. |

I just received my RRA A4 upper with mid-length handguards. I ordered the one with the chrome bolt carrier group and chrome lined light weight barrel. I put a standard carry handle with iron sights on top and I am still in the process of breaking in the barrel. I went with the mid-length handguards, because the front sight looks a little fuzzy on the short handguard model and the extra 2" of sight radius helped. I have been shooting 2 1/2 MOA groups with 55g M193 ball ammunition. I expect the groups to shrink a bit once I have 200-300 rounds through the barrel.
I would highly recommend the lightweight barrel. |
