Help ...

I just had my lower engraved locally and during the process the anodizing seems to flaked off around the lettering.  I can have the lower blasted and re-anodized, but I sure would like my lower and upper to match.  Will DD re-anodize my lower if I ship it back to them ?

Thanks in advance.

This is what you want (although you can get it cheaper elsewhere).

To blast and re-anodize would be expensive and time consuming. Plus as a batch process there are no guarantees it would match. Just black out your engraving and I'm sure you can't see the difference.

It is not a good idea to strip anodizing off of aluminum.  Anodizing penetrates aluminum so in order to completely remove it, you will most definitely remove material.  This can be very bad and a lot of time will make a part out of spec.

What I would recommend is to use some Birchwood Casey Aluminum Black for starters.  Once that part is done, just use a black china pencil to fill in the engraving.  Quick, Simple, and Effective.

I can "vouch" for BC Aluma Black for sure.  Have used it on several DD rifles, uppers, and lowers.

Make sure you degrease the area.  Slowly apply the A.B. Then wipe it off with a wet cloth and follow up with some oil.  It might take a couple of coats to get the right color - BUT make sure you get it off of the aluminum because the process is a chemical chain reaction and it will corrode aluminum if you leave it on and don't "wash" it off and oil afterward.

Also - it smells like rotten eggs when applied - so do this outside or in the garage.  The Wife will not be happy if you do this inside the house - trust me on that one!!

I got to do this today, both the Aluminum Black and a black china pencil - looks AMAZING!!!!  Thanks for the great advice.
