I've noticed here recently that the "C" markings on the M4 upper receivers are punch stamped "C" not the raised "C" that I have seen in the past. In fact, on a recent LE6920 rifle I was looking at, it appeared that some grinding of an existing marking had taken place and a "C" was punched in along side a raised "keyhole" I was appalled at the rough finish where that happened.
I'm no Colt expert, but can I only assume that Colt's upper receiver manufacture has been having some issues w/ production?
Anybody have any clue to what's going on here ?

I wonder if they are replacing "D" (Diemaco/Colt Canada) forge marks with C.

I've seen complaints on the board here from people who's receivers were "D" marked, probably more out in the even less informed market.

There are pics of receivers not entire rifles in this thread of the same question I asked in the AR15 section.

These actually look pretty well finished as far as I can tell from the pics.

However, the "C" is stamped not raised.

Colt M4 receiver Pics ???

Let me know if this is the standard in production by Colt for now. and why?

Historically, uppers with a raised C were machined at Colt, and uppers with a stamped C were contracted.
