How essential is the roll pin that goes into the grip?

Mine didn't come with one that I put onto my new lower receiver today...
Just wondering, and I've gotten a 3/4' long 3/32 diameter pin to go in its stead, but it's not as long as the OEM pin.

Anyways, just wondering

I don't have one at all in mine, and it never moved unless I wanted it to.

Same here. I have 5 MIAD grips, none of them have the pin installed, and some of them I've had for 5 years or so and never had the backstrap move.

Out of the 2 I have one on my SBR did start to drift down about 1/8 of an inch every now and then. So I drove in the roll pin. All is well on the other one so far.

I never used mine either and the backstrap never came loose in over 2 years. I've switched to the MOE+ now.

Both of mine are pinned. One shifts side to side pretty bad ,and the other doesn't move at all.

Any suggestions on how to tighten it up?
